  • Whoa, and here I thought making an FPS in Construct would be impossible. Now we have to figure out how to make the player look up and down.

I edited it so that it uses WASD to move (strafing) but I can't figure out how to do mouse aiming (currently uses left and right arrow keys to aim). I was trying to make it where the old MouseX is subtracted from the current MouseX but that stops working when the mouse reaches the edge of the screen. Can anyone help with this?

You can make it so that the mouse cursor is the aiming reticle of the gun; and whenever the cursor moves close to the edge of the screen, the player turns. That's how it was done in Operation Flashpoint and ArmA. I don't know why they did it like that, but I wasn't comfortable with it and changed it to be like other FPSs.

  • This is one of the greatest things ever made in Construct.

Yeah, wait x milliseconds and if nothing is occupying the same space, turn 90 degrees and walk for another x milliseconds, then check the space around you again and turn another 90 degrees, etc. Wouldn't take long to get it right.

I was just kind of thinking; "Too bad there isn't a 'random movement' button' to make things faster."

Or you can set it to move to a random position every random amount of milliseconds. Then add all the things you want it to avoid as a pathfinding obstacle. Make sure you have the RTS pathfinding set to "Custom" instead of "Around 'Solid'". If you want it to move around everything set as a solid, then keep it at "Around 'Solid'" and do what I mentioned about pathfinding obstacles for things that aren't set as a solid.

  • Update: I tried the same CAP file on another computer with totally different specs and the same error appears.

  • Ah, crap! I was remaking my project and the runtime error's appearing in the event sheet editor again. I think it's because either I delete events the wrong way or I save quickly before I open a preview...?! I don't know why this is happening!

  • I sent the E-mail, but I forgot to mention that the variable that's stuck at '1' is PlayerPresenceKnown. It should stay at '0'.

The sprite icons will update if you edit them by double-clicking frame 1 of the default animation in the Animation tab. You can use this as a workaround until it's fixed. This will update the icons for the object pickers in the event sheet editor.

    Thanks, I'll try this out.

  • Hey guys, I keep getting this error whenever I scroll down to a certain point in the event sheet editor. I don't know when it started, because I was mostly working on the top half of the event sheet. The error no longer appears when I delete all the events starting from the top. If there is no fix for this, I'm probably going to have to copy and recreate the project and hope it doesn't show up again.

I also have another problem where a variable is set to one value when I specifically initialized it to be another value. I think it's because I created it in the event sheet under one value; then I changed it on the layout editor to be another value. I may have to recreate the project anyway because of this problem.

Another small problem is that I was setting a text object in the event sheet to return a private variable and then it just disappeared upon having pressed the 'finish' button. This is randomly recurring.

A bit off-topic: I hope they plan on making the sprite icons update automatically whenever the sprites are edited; but that's more of a feature request.

  • OK folks, download it again if you have already and it should fix the 3D box and Template errors. Delete Template.csx from Plugins\ and Plugins\Runtime if you're installing over the old folder, it's an unused and broken plugin.

    No more errors, thanks.

  • [quote:2c2yc4g0]Error loading F:\Scirra\Construct\Plugins\Template.csx (14001) - this plugin may not be available!

I get the same error. I let the DX updater run.

  • Are your graphics drivers up to date? My parents computer had the same problem on a GeForce4 MX(something like that, anyways) until I updated the graphics drivers. That might be the problem.

That completely solved the problem, thanks. This computer even has the same exact video card.

  • Every time I add a sprite and place it on the layout editor, I get this invalid texture error. Trying to edit a sprite from an existing template also generates the error.
