it seems to me your being kinda lazy saying something too much work. making anything is going to be a lot of work.
a game wont materialize and asking devs for a redundant feature because you dont want to try very hard isn't going to make you any better of a Congrammer.

very cool indeed. id suggest making his legs a separate object/bone group tho, so that his body animations can be controlled independently of his running/walking/idling/jumping anims.
Old concept grappling arm i made like 1.5 years ago, never finished it because bionic commando completely ripped it off (coincidently of course) oh ya its done with mouse so its pretty rough looking

we didn't use any special shaders.
your new example seems to lack rays surface area, theres pretty much on or off, and nothing inbetween. thats where most of the cpu drain in our example comes from, the in betweens
iso movement, with elevation possibilities and iso path finding. those are basic things that it needs
