  • There is no spoon!

  • Working on getting a decent general layout together in Photoshop with just solid blocks of color. When I get something I'm pleased with I'll post it up here for comment, even though it won't be much to look at

Any general idea of where you'd want the interface to go visually, when it gets to that point? Since it seems like the game is dealing with nice cars I'd assume you don't want the interface to look too much like a junk heap

  • Might be interested in doing a post-apocalyptic interface for the in-game portion if you're interested.

I'm all about grungy and beat up stuff.

  • The mock-up looks pretty sweet. Some suggestions, even though I know you mentioned it was done in a hurry:

I wouldn't bother with a speed indicator. Is knowing your speed really going to matter that much? Unless you're going to model the car physics realistically it doesn't seem like it's needed in a 2Dish car game.

It might be cool to tie the primary/secondary ammo to a gauge like that, though. Similar to a gas gauge on a car except it tells you when you're out of bullets, and it'd tie into the car theme. It might also prove beneficial because you wouldn't have to draw up weapon logos and ammo types for the interface, could just use the gauge and put the name of the weapon at the top or something.

Also, keep important information like health, armor, and ammo in one area so the player doesn't have to look at two different areas of the screen.

    Looking cool

  • O.O

Why did I not know about this site before?!?

    I love you.

Glad I could help, I'd also suggest checking out the tutorials on that same website, there aren't many but they are all good and give some good tips.

  • There are a lot of websites out there that host royalty-free textures, a good one being:

    CGTextures.com

Combining rust, broken concrete, leaks, etc over the top of a building picture using layer blending will give you a good effect, and then you just paint some of the more specific damage in yourself and it will probably be pretty convincing.

  • Seems that most people are blowing it out of proportion.

I'm really on the fence about it until they clear up what "a diligent search for the owner" entails. I can see how it could be abused, but that same abuse is going on now anyway, so is it really worth flipping out over?

Seems this bill will only affect people that are attempting to obtain works that are no longer supported or can be supported by the original owner.

  • Good luck with the photo adventure!

  • What's most "curious" to me, is that he seems to have just taken those images off a porn site lol. The girl I mean, the other stuff is from stock photos.

That's what I thought too, so I guess the next question is how is it we both realize it's from a porn site?

This thread is all kinds of awkward now

Menus are looking pretty good, maybe just feather the edges around the chick so it doesn't look so cut out.

  • This might be worth looking into

CrazyBump is the best normal map generator around currently.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Thanks Your character designs are kick ass as well, SoldjahBoy, nice dynamic poses and forms, is the Azarayah image a 3D model or is it drawn to look like a 3D model? Either way it looks brilliant and I really like the colors and everything in it.

  • I agree with what's been said thus far when it comes to the menu.

Even though I can see art not being a priority just yet, here are some tutorials that might make your main menu stand out a bit better:

    Making Realistic Starfields

    Making a Planet

    Planet Rings

    Other tutorials

I guess it depends on how detailed you want everything to be, though. I also think you could do with a better composition for your menu screen. Here are two of my suggestions:

Suggestion 1 - Making the planet larger and putting it in any corner of the screen would tighten up the menu a bit and frame it better. I'd say stick to the right side of the screen, mainly out of bias that it looks more aesthetically pleasing because many of us read left to right and it's easier on the eyes.

Suggestion 2 - Just looks a lot more epic and makes the screen feel potentially less cluttered.

Just my two cents on the menu itself, the other pieces of art are looking a lot better so I don't have much to say about them.

    Good luck with your project.
