If you are looking for a good software check out gimp. I heard it's free and very good. I use CorelDraw. Just because i know some basic stuff about it. But for some reason many people hate this software... Honestly all this is a basic drawing. Most stuff is possible to create in construct2. Effects are very important! They really add a lot. Take a look how my game looked some time ago with and without effects:

I currently use Inkscape but I will also try Gimp. But I must thank you for mentioning effects...I will try to apply them in my first game. It looks fine without them, but it's possible that it will look better with a few effects.

I have finally finished my first game and I plan to publish it...first on Scirra arcade and Kongregate and then on Android and iOS. My final goal is to become a full-time game developer, but I have a job now. Do you think it's smart to monetize my first game or not? Is it a good idea to use my first game just to promote myself, my website(s) and my social profiles (Facebook page, Twitter etc.)? Can I monetize the game later?

No such thing I'm afraid, and if by some miracle it truly is unique, get a new idea right now, because it will 95% fail.

People don't like unique, they want familiar.

But if it's not unique you are just copying someone else, right? Or you think different?

if they just took the basic idea, I would do nothing. There is nothing new under the sun after all.

IF however they stole my game, graphics, sounds and code, then I would look to take action.

What if you publish a game to web and you make an Android version 2-3 weeks later and someone steals your idea and makes his own Android version before you do??? What can you do? What would you do?
