  • Hey Zode, for now if you want to get your games on the web GameJolt has a java web starter that works with Construct games. Cros, the guy that runs the place, has even made a Construct plugin that allows highscore and achievement info for your game if you want. GameJolt is becoming a pretty popular site for indie games too, so you might want to check that out. It's one option anyway.

  • Well honestly so far it looks like the only remaining bug that is affecting Platform School currently is that you fall through vertically moving platforms. But that doesn't happen until lesson four. I might be able to release the first three lessons until it's fixed, but then again there are some collision mask issues that could be addressed as well that could make a difference in how I present my tutorials.

    So I'll think about it for a while and see. I'm probably just going to hold off on them for now though, so don't hold your breath.

  • It looks like the filters are just incorrect in 0.99.82 and prior. It's fixed in 0.99.83, which was released just today. Check out the discussion forum.

  • When David comes back I'll ask him about the downward moving platform jump gravity mess-up thing. He should be able to make a fix for it.

  • Just a heads up, I do have some lessons for the next generation tutorial finished, but they're not going to be released until v0.99.83. Barring any breaky bugs with that version, that is (but I don't think there will be).

    Well it turns out there are. Apparently the Platform behavior fixes that David made didn't make it into v0.99.83. Since Platform School requires these in order to work properly, that means that it's still on hold for now. Sorry, everyone.

    Hopefully everything will be sorted out for the next build.

  • A 3D object loader would be like New Super Mario Bros. DS, right? The viewing angle is always from the side, but you can use 3D objects instead of sprites. I've been thinking recently about how incredibly useful that would be...

    It would be, but unless it's made as a third party plugin then it's probably never going to be made.

  • Ashley, it appears that the platform behavior fixes David made in his test build didn't make it into this release. I'm thinking you either included or built the wrong platform runtime, because all the old .82 bugs are still there.

    If I copy the .83 platform runtime from his Stuff.rar into this release's plugin runtime folder then it works fine.

  • This game is hilarious. All the fancy menus and voice intros and everything... and the actual race lasts about two seconds and then quits

  • thats not very realistic for downward movement. a body under the influence of gravity standing on another one which is moving downward simply falls onto that body to stay "connected", it doesnt have some arbitrary force gluing it. if you were to move that platform away faster than gravity could accelerate the body downwards you would start to fall. i havent played with this yet in platform movement but speed should only be added for a sideways or upwards motion, where theres actually some opposing forces sticking things together. again im not sure how the behavior works right now but what im hearing here makes it seem wrong no?

    Yes but it's been added as a fix to keep the player squarely on moving platforms. It's something David struggled with for a long time. Basically when you're standing on a moving object you need to be glued to it to avoid jittering and falling through.

    Perhaps the gluing thing could be disabled the moment you press Jump. That would probably fix it. As for a platform that falls away faster than the player is falling... probably not going to happen without Custom Movement.
