  • Dreamscene is the devil ... take a peek at the ram usage next time you run one.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Works fine. My only gripe is you just used static artwork. The individual "puffs" should animate as well. It would look and feel less "game-like."

  • I currently solve this by just copying important things into a new cap.

But I agree a better grouping solution would be handy. Maybe even expanding the resource system.

  • Make sure you include what your sound chip/card is. There are a handful of them that work with DirectSound on Vista, in case you happen to have one.

  • Clickteams priorities are all messed up right now. It's like they can't settle on what to work on. Java? HWA? MMF3? MMF 3D? Apparently all of those are being worked on right now.

HWA was and is the only thing I care about, and it will probably be a year total delay when the next beta of that comes out.

Because of the DirectSound issues I reinstalled MMF2 recently, and am working with it until the issue is resolved, but man is it annoying hehe. Have to work around using extensions in case it slows it all down for no reason.

But hey, at least I can get sound on Vista lol.

  • This whole thing makes me little Microsoft. I realize they can't keep technologies around forever, but DirectSound is still used in so many things it's just dumb of them.

Plus, I could finish this project in XP SP2, but the person who wants to use it on Vista then gets no sound.

My case was: No sound for any feature on Vista with or without SP1, so downgraded to XP SP3 with still no sound but a different error message, finally uninstalling SP3 where everything worked fine.

  • Until then, make your sprite grayscale and use a color filter.

  • There are some problems with DirectShow too apparently, but they aren't the same as DirectSound.

I know when I'm on Vista Play Music doesn't work from resource or otherwise, on three different machines I've tried at work.

"Q: Do we need to adjust the our code in anyway?

A: That's hard to say without know what your code does You need to test.

Vista has its own set of issues such WMP using Media Foundation for WM

playback, the presence of the EVR, new model for volume control per

    application, etc."

  • It's cool man. As I mentioned I used to blow a lot on a new PC too. The PC exclusives just aren't abundant enough anymore ... and man do I hate Spore lol. *cough*

360 isn't "junk" anymore, they're all on 65nm chips now and don't have many issues anymore. I bought one at launch and it never died, I got a new one however because a friend spilled beer on it ... yay.

  • I just reset the XY when it leaves the play area. If the layout is 800 x 600 for example, just subtract/add the XY it leaves at based on which side it left.

As for the other issue, that may be something that can be added. An option to have the XY update based on actual position rather than where it would have been.

  • Aww, I was sort of hoping you were going for the full-3D "remake" route, since the last one I saw in a hospital made me sick ... no ... going to resist ...

    Anyways, good luck I guess

  • I'm 100% sure I understand what you are getting at... are you saying the GPU i the bottleneck in the system or the CPU? I know the CPU is the bottleneck since it is not being used properly YET. I bought it because software will grow into it... I have owned a computer store or at least worked in one for the last 12-13 years, so I'm pretty up with what is going on in terms of hardware advancement. I bought now because we are half way through the 7 year technology phase... this PC should last an easy 3 years without any upgrade and still play whatever the latest game is no worries.

I guess I'm saying you didn't need to buy the extra GPU power ... yet.

So, when do you stop waiting? What you just stated happens all the time. If you thought like that, then you would never buy anything new...ever.

I generally skip every other generation of hardware and take a look at upcoming releases. DirectX 11 is coming and they're talking about 12 already.

The cycle doesn't end, and as far as gaming goes, I gave up on PC for the most part. Xbox 360 and PS3 will last 5-6 years and cost tons less. There's a few PC exclusives left, but not nearly enough to blow a huge sum on a PC.

I don't know what kind of laptop you have, but my MSI GX600 (512gb GeForce 8400M, core 2 centrino, 4gb ddr2 800, etc etc...) doesn't run Crysis at 30fps... at least, not on anything over Low settings. D:

    Core2Duo 2.4ghz, 3 gigs of ram and an 8800M.

I just have one PC and one laptop :/

I'm down to just this laptop and nearly every gaming system on the market. I will never buy a desktop PC again. I used to do exactly what you did, and I guess I just don't care anymore.
