CREATE A HUD LAYER & BASIC HEART/HEALTH BAR

Go to the Layers Tab > Rename Layer 0 to GAME / Click the “+” Symbol to Create a New Layer. Name it HUD (Heads Up Display) > With HUD Highlighted set the Parallax to 0,0 in the Properties Tab (This is so the Objects on this layer always remain in their same spot such as score or health.)

Now that we have a HUD Layer we can create the Health Bar. With HUD Layer Highlighted, Right Click on the Layout to Insert a New Object (SPRITE). This tutorial uses the size of 128x32 given me the right amount of space to create 4 equal sized hearts. Provide a name such as HEART.

(NOTE: The Speed is 0 so it doesn’t cycle through all the Frames once the Game Starts. If Hearts are too difficult to whip up, just use squares. Frame 0 has all 4 full. Frame 1 has 3 Full. Frame 2 has 2 full. Frame 3 has 1 full. Frame 4 has all empty. (ADJUST TO DESIRED NUMBER OF HEARTS/HEALTH BAR.) Close out the Edit Image Window.

QUICK LAYOUT SETUP

While the HUD Layer is selected, place the HEART on the top left of the Window. Return to the GAME Layer. Start Setting Up your Level (LAYOUT 1). For this tutorial, set up 3 THUGS per section. Don’t mind the Boss/Larger Thug at the End. Place the Green Box (CAMERA) Somewhere over the HERO. Place the PF_MOVEMENT (Red Box) Over the 8_DIRECTIONAL (Blue Box). This is so when the Game Starts there’s less a chance of it not falling on top of the solid 8_DIRECTIONAL object.

(Doesn’t look pretty, but it will do.)
