  • Spades I am talking about Construct 2 - the HTML most recent version that exports to HTML5.

Citnarf I read that forum post but the trick is having any instance of sprite 1 within any instance of sprite 2. I think that is the magic right there.

(I meessed around with that today but couldn't get it to work with any instance of 1 vs any instance f 2)

  • In my day job I am a website programmer. Php and MySQL mainly. CSS and Javascript also.

As far as I'm concerned, flash is a dying technology and for very good reasons such as:

    1. File bloat

    2. Insane coding concepts.

    3. Apple products (iphone, ipadetc) don't support flash

While HTML5 is young, most people that you care about, have an upgraded browser.

My feeling is that smart phones will take over the world for most users.

For this reason coding in software that exports to HTML5 is not a silly idea.

If you have an issue with HTML5 export - go for one of the other game making programs on the market.

After researching quite a number of game maker tools (I even emailed the dev's of several indie games) I settled on Construct2 for these reasons:

    1. It exports to HTML5 natively

    2. HTML5 export is a near step to iphone and android export

    3. I don't have the time to learn a 3D game making program

    4. I can't be bothered to custom code - I do that enough in my day job. (after all if you are custom coding then why do you have an engine?)

  • I love Tower Defense games. They are what keeps me sane.

What I would really love is if the lads would code some sort of function that is essentially:

    When Sprite1 is <= x distance from Sprite2 ... fire event

That way when coding a tower defense you could easily have a tower fire at the enemy mob.

My aim is to say something like: When an instance of the players units are within an instance of the enemy's units - fire a bullet.

I have read the forums and I'm aware of the distance() function, but it doesn't really cope when there are multiple instances of both the player and the enemy's units.

If this could be coded into the engine, I would buy the boy's a beer or two. If I have missed something fundamental in coding events please learn me good.

    The beer is still offered*.

    * You will need to come to Adelaide to claim said beer.

    Cheers guys!

  • I have wondered this too.

It would be particularly useful in games where you "place" a sprite on the screen, such as Tower Defenses and RTS type games.

  • I love the whole event system. I'm still getting me head around it but by watching the forums and reading the tutorials I'm starting to see what can be done.

  • The delayed release of updates is a really good idea.

the key thing is to tell them what they are missing out on and how many days they have to wait for it. eg "New exporter - export to .exe - 29 days till you get it - Click Here for Why"

There would need to be a section for forced updates that everyone gets such as security holes etc.

The other thing is that I though the amounts of money were a touch low.

Also there should be a support option (I can't remember) where for a metric shitton of cash each month the user get access to you guys for support.

The key is that everyone has a right to earn a dollar, you guys have a great product so you deserve to be paid for it.

  • I know currently there are no plans for it, but a C0.x to C2 converter would be great.

i understand if it doesnt happen of course.

  • Thanks mate.

If the event system is going to be similiar I'm cool with that.

    ZurtsTD here we come!

  • I have downloaded both tools and would love to continue to use 99.x, but it has no support life.

Contruct2 has a lot of potential but it is still pre alpha.

So if I learn Construct 99.x will that allow me to easily slide into Construct 2 when it becomes viable? Will many of the commans and events and behaviours be the same?

I mainly want to make tower defense and space shooter games.

(do we need another Td? probablynot - but I need to write one)

(Thanks fellas, construct is pretty awesome)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Thanks for this.

the "avoid moving over" commands seems a bit clunky. Imaging if there were 10 different units!

Hopefully C2 will fix this sort of problem.

  • My interest is in RTS type games such as Dune, C&C and Warcraft3 etc.

    Specifically:

    1. Building of buildings/units

    2. AI

    3. Creation of enemies.

I suspect much of it I have discovered already, but it would be good to get a professionals point of interest.
