  • visual studio is not a wrapper. it's a development tool. C#, C++ and more. But also extensible and can build cordova apps in js/html, including c2 games.

i know it's not a wrapper, but you need it if you're using xdk for windows apps, as i understand.

  • The real question is this, would you play a game if it asked for Identity, Contact and WiFi permissions? Now, I'm not a MASSIVE app player/user, so I just tend to click yes to whatever, but here's my cocoon.io compiled app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... bbi.srduke - start installing that, and you tell me if the permissions bother you or not (you don't have to finish installing, just let me know how you feel about the permissions).

  • AndreasR Android and Apple are going the same direction. Android opening up for Chromebook, Apple planning to have iOS apps run on Macs. Microsoft is miles ahead in terms of forward thinking on this issue, the only problem is they don't execute/market it well enough. But i would prefer if the Construct export just bundled itt all for u, skipping the annoying middle step. For me XDK, Visual Studio, Cocoon.io and all the other wrappers are just an annoyance and a hassle.

I apologise, I'm not a Windows 10 user so I was just going on their phone situation, didn't realize how important apps were to desktop/console users. Oddly enough, I was trying to see what the easiest option myself would be, and it looks like using cocoon.io for Android/iOS and XDK/Visual Studio for Windows seems the best compromise?

  • I tried out Cocoon.io, but the main reason I'm gonna go with XDK, is probably because i can build for iOS, Android, AND Windows 10 apps. It's just convenient, and I havn't really noticed any major difference in performance.

I don't think you need to worry about Windows apps anymore? Isn't that a bit of a sinking ship?

You can take my word for that as Zebbi wrote above. Cocoon gives better performance, faster build'n'test possibilities, flow of UX is very smooth and your app is going to be 20 mb lighter than Crosswalk-build. There are just three things to note:

    1. Cocoon does not support "Letterbox Scale" full screen mode, so you got to think about that

    2. Cocoon does not support Web Fonts, so you either got to stick with standard fonts (ugly) or use Sprite Fonts. Not a big deal, but can be a pain in the ass if you need to change the color of the text or already used fonts in your build.

    3. Cocoon puts a lot of permission requirements on the app, depending on the services and plugins you are using, Zebbi can share his experience with that. The more permissions you ask from your users, the less likely they will install your app.

Proof can be found in my signature, and If you need any help, please let me know.

    Happy Building!

RIght now, it's the permissions that's my issue, here's a thread on it, would be handy if anyone else wants to throw their input in there to twist the devs arms: https://forums.cocoon.io/t/remove-ident ... ons/2940/3

Just a shame the devs barely show up for support <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very Sad">

Hehe, I'll be happy/lucky if it breaks 1-5 players!

  • Would like to know someones experience on the new version of intelxdk ???

    Zebbi ,

Yes, i can confirm the performance. I have spent a week or two of testing and Cocoon beats latest XDK. Btw, my game was completely unplayable on Android 4.2.2 (which still holds like 25% of market share) via XDK + Crosswalk, but with Cocoon performance is quite good. I also experienced some bugs regarding music and advertisement in XDK, but Cocoon had nothing like that. I also tried building by Adobe's Phonegapp - the performance was the worst there. Just FYI.

About your error - the post was in 2014, and a lot could change in this process. I recommend double checking the plug-ins you are using and maybe remove some of them which are not necessary which are not required. As of 09 June 2016, Cocoon is your best shot. It is not perfect, but it is edible.

Sr. DUKE was practicing Zaxaphone (the lesser of the famous five saxophones) in a jazz quartet down in South Esperanisha when he was summoned to the race track for an impromptu trial run practice in preparation for the 200km Summer Turtle Sprint. The surrounding Spanish mountains began to give way to a-quake'n and a-shake'n, so now its up to you THE PLAYER to SWIPE the boulders from his path, and allow the DUKE to safely succeed!

Some strange way i got vibes like Mario Kart on SNES but top-down.. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy"> The color theme could be a bit less "aggressive", but seems like a fun top down racer.

Did anyone else have any problems with home and return buttons on different phones when using Fullscreen option? CocoonJS used to work perfectly with any device buttons, but cocoonio disables these on Galaxy S phones. As example Nexus 5X and virtual device buttons, works perfectly.

Thanks! It's kindof an anti-racer I guess, in that you have to control the drivers environment 😄 Let me know how it plays on your device if you can, it's smooth on a Nexus 2013 and it's okay enough on a Sony Xperia Z but would be good to know how it works on other devices!

Thank you, I agree it has the smallest footprint and best performance, just shame it looks a bit like a spy when I'm just using admob and google play games!

  • Ashley is this a difficult switch to implement into a quick update for c2?

  • Zebbi,

I believe that depends on the plugins you are using. I have built my game this week using Cocoon, and there are just standard permission requirements (internet + write/read storage). I would also recommend looking around for articles about permission removals, like this one: https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/1071/r ... mpiled-apk

Haven't tried myself, but could be of help.

About the topic, Cocoon delivered great performance compared to XDK and their UX is just brilliant - it is faster and quite convenient to use, and plus, your apps dont get 20mb+ in size. Though, one should be aware of limitations like Letterbox-scale and Web fonts issues before going for it.

Tools looks good!! I get this:

Maybe new version doesn't work with the tool? Would you say the very latest XDK is still beaten by C.io's performance?

  • that's what I'm saying.. it's not perfect but i've found it a better experience than xdk. that's all.

As of right now, with the latest XDK?

  • Zebbi I've never had a problem or complaint about the permissions.. also my main focus is iOS which has no permissions at all. Android is a secondary market to me. It's consistently brought in less revenue than it's iOS counterpart. no matter how much or how little.. always the same.

What did the Cocoon IO guys tell you when you requested they change this?

The cocoon guys say very little to me at all, not paid support I guess
