  • I've managed to work it out.

Before I was just setting the X and Y of the enemies based on the current player position. If the players X was higher than the enemy, increase the enemy X ... etc. It worked but was very rigid and not what I was after.

To fix it, I set the enemies up as bullets. Then set their angle towards the player and BOOM, they all move towards the player in a nice smooth arc. Don't know if this is ideal but it looks and works the best way I've tried.

    Thanks for the help

  • Hi, it's me again. Seems I'm here every 5 minutes with a question

I'm making a simple Robotron clone. Doing a lot of these easy projects (?) to get to grips with Construct. Atm I've got the enemy sprites checking their X and Y towards the player sprite X and Y. If it's more, decrease. If it's less, increase. This works OK so the enemy are moving towards the player but it ends up with the enemy sprites all lined up in a row if you move around enough. Hard to explain really but suffice to say it's crap.

So my question is, is there something in Construct that will allow me to vector the enemies towards the player sprite, rather than just inc X and dex Y etc?

    Any help appreciated as always.

    Ta very glad.

  • Hi. I'm making my own version of Llamatron 2112 to get used to Construct. I want to be able to shoot out a steady stream of bullets in the direction the player is moving. What is the best way to do this? Every tick, always with a timer ...

Here's a vid of Llamatron incase you don't know what I'm on about.

    Cheers

  • I was actually just using normal sprites and updating the X and Y depending on the player position. Now I know about the 8 direction auto shoving themselves apart, I'll use that.

    Thanks a lot

  • Hi.

I'm making a Llamatron 2112 clone atm and have the baddies homing in on the player as they should. Problem is they start to overlap each other. Is there a way to stop this happening? I've set them to solid and that doesn't work and the only collision options are really to destroy them (unless I've missed something). I end up with one big clump of aliens chasing the player.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Makes sense.

Cheers, I'll try it your way. Tend to forget that people still have slow comps. Most now can run games like this easily.

  • Ye sorry.

I use the SPRITE - PICK ONE AT RANDOM event. Then set that to spawn a bullet, which was set to fire down the screen (in the bullet options). The problem was, it fired all the time. So I also added a RANDOM condition to the event so that it didn't. I found that getting it to choose a number between 1 and 100 and allowing it to fire if it picked 50. You can add a condition to an event just by clicking on it when you've created it, a popout appears allowing you to set it.

This is how it looked in Construct Event panel.

Great peace of software BTW. I'm lucky enough to be able to search through the options and commands but I imagine there's loads I'm missing. Hoping to help with the Wiki if I become comfortable enough to pass on my knowledge.

  • Scrub that, I found it. Everything is in there if you search for it. Just a bit confusing for a newbie.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I'm trying to make a Space Invaders game but I'm stuck already

How would I go about randomly assigning an invader to fire and positioning the bullet at that ship? I can't find anything on random numbers etc.

    Thanks.

  • lol OK cheers.

  • Just been searching through the forums and found out some of what I needed.

However, when I try to create sprites from a spite sheet, the import dialog seems a bit limited. A lot of the time, sheets aren't evenly spaced out so just cutting into set sized tiles doesn't work. I know I sound lazy but I don't mind doing it manually s'long as I've not missed an easy way to do it.

    Cheers.

  • Hi. Just found out about Construct today and I've got to say it looks amazing.

My problem is to do with animations. Can you create an animation from a SPRITE SHEET or do you have to have each frame as a seperate file? If you can use sheets, is there somewhere that explains how to do this? If not, how do you guys create your frames? Just cut/crop/paste from a sheet for example?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.
