  • Windwalker - Yeah I think that's currently the best solution. I was worried about, for instance, having the same object on multiple layers (in one of my games there's buildings that appear in background and foreground). But thinking about it you could just make a family for each object type (sprite, tiled background, etc.) and have them say 'is on layer' etc.

So yeah, not so hard after all. Thanks for the thought!

  • I don't know how easy it would be to add to C2, but layer time scales would make life so much easier. You could do a whole bunch of slow motion and camera tricks very easily. With object time scale it's just too messy for a lot of things and adjusting the entire time scale messes up your timing.

But even if it doesn't get included, has anyone found any nice clean solutions for this sort of thing? Say a character layer moving at 0.5, background at 2, effects at 1.5 and UI at 1? (and turning them all back and forth regularly depending on conditions)

  • I think it would be tops if someone would handle the application process for people for a fee. It's really such a hassle, I know appMobi used to offer a similar service for $100. Maybe ArcadEd would be interested?

  • Hey all,

Anyone know if Spriter works in Tizen? And if not, are there any known plans to enable it? If Tizen ends up working (well) with webgl and Spriter I all of a sudden won't care about CocoonJS.

  • Making a turret target what you like is easy, complex menu systems and RPG elements are simple once you're comfortable with the events and I have even build whole card-game engines that are far better than the official MTG online one (which granted isn't that hard, but still). About the only thing I haven't got into is image cutting, which I hear the canvass plugin (by Rojo Hound I think...) can do.

A year or two ago there were some big things missing like pathfinding, but now there is never really a time when I think something can't be done or even it would be too hard to do. There are always some great forum members here to help you out too.

  • It is good news , but the problem is we dont know the timeline from ludei. They could even maybe release next update in 6 months... So we have to wait and see.

Yeah exactly, Ludei say a lot of things :P 'Next build' and 'someday when we feel like it' are the same thing coming from them. And then, even if it does come along there's every chance it will be bug laden or not work as it should, like webgl.

  • Also I was wondering if there is a file size limit for Tizen? I haven't been able to find that out anywhere.

  • Ashley & szymek thanks guys! That's really great to hear.

  • Hey all,

I have been trying to find out how to lock the orientation of the screen to landscape in Tizen, and someone from the Tizen forums linked me to this.

I'm useless with code, so I was wondering if anyone could help me with this? As in which files I need to change and where. I've searched the forums and seen a number of people with the same problem, but so far haven't found anyone who was successful.

  • One piece of advice I would give is to add a local variable that is set to 1 when a menu button is pushed. Then as a condition of pressing a button, make it so that variable needs to be 0. This just overcomes a lot of issues like touching underlying buttons or two at a time. Then also/instead use 'pick top' if using a button family.

And if your menus get really complicated with a lot of things overlapping and remaining on-screen, I use a text variable that defines which group of buttons are active (purchase, equipment, etc.).

spy84 - another +1 here. I started with Unity, and was learning some basic scripting, but really it was a massive additional headache. Why bother when C2 doesn't need any? So sure, if they did release 3D there is no question they would rule the roost, but I guess it's a question of time and effort required for a small team. Plus also the risk if one of the other engines removes the need for scripting around the same time.

If any engine could handle 3D, 2D and multiplayer without scripting then really there is nothing left to ask for.

  • I think it would be a great idea to have mechanics as the focus. Say, try to make the best experience/levelling system or best RTS controls.

I say this because people here could really benefit from seeing how everyone goes about things. Since the competition would be for people only using C2, everyone could understand each other's work and really learn some stuff. It could also help form some standards for C2 use.

I think this way is just much better, as there are many game comps already and a few days to a week isn't enough to make a truly impressive game. But is enough to make a sleek, efficient mechanic with a basic example.

  • Not sure if it's related, but I find lots of issues with arrays where I need to add a 0.1 second wait between actions, or need to do the action in a non-sub event.

So really not sure why, but maybe you could try playing around with waits and positioning and see if that helps.

  • Helladen - Sent a PM.

  • ignacio - If you can use Spriter I will have some work for you in November. You'll be working closely with another artist but be primarily animating with Spriter. Message me if you're interested.
