  • Having a mental block. I have 16 instances of Sprite_A in the layout, and I am attempting this...

If one instance of Sprite_A is not visible, then make all instances of Sprite_A invisible

    or alternatively-

If any instance of Sprite_A is not visible, then make all instances of Sprite_A invisible

I could instead set opacity to zero if necessary.

Please help me find the right events for this.

    Thank you!

  • Hey gang, so I am having a Kickstarter soon for my Construct 2 made game. I want to give away free copies of the game as a reward tier but iOS and Android don't have any kind of voucher or coupon system.

I can think of 2 work-arounds. Either release the game for free and put up a "pay $5 to unlock full game" screen after about an hour of gameplay, in which you can also input a voucher code I make.

Or I charge for the game (lets pretend $5) and in the game there is a screen where you can enter a voucher code I make up and you can get a $5 refund.

Does one of these sound like a good option or is there some other way I haven't considered?

    Thanks!

  • Good morning forums.

I was recently interviewed on an indie game development podcast and I talk a lot about using Construct 2 (plus some other important topics like running a Kickstarter and teamwork issues).

    http://www.indiegamepod.com/?p=3232

The interviewer had not heard of Construct 2 before so hopefully this will be good exposure for the software.

I'm an amateur so I can't say I give a lot of good advice, but some people may find my experiences useful or interesting. Plus he's a good interviewer.

Apologies if this belongs in another forum.

  • I've been working on this for three years, but very part time (around studying, working several jobs and so on), if I were working on it full time it might have taken me three to six months...

Thank you for watching and responding

  • Try Construct 3

  • Coming to a close with the demo for my Monster Collection RPG. I apologize for the quality of the video below, I still need to learn how to use my screen capture software properly...

    https://youtu.be/m5IJqp8Xjbs

All the assets and music are placeholders, but the mechanics are pretty much done, a few bugs here and there to work out but it is almost ready for review, just need to decide when I have enough replacement pixel-art and when the quests are sophisticated enough.

I am very glad I found Construct 2, it is a really good fit for my level of competence. Thank you for all of the forum support too!

  • Thank you guys this was very helpful.

  • Hi all, is there one place where it is easy to see how much it would cost to publish a game on various different platforms and consoles?

For instance, if I were making a generic 2D top down RPG, and I were to export it from Construct 2 in the correct format, how much would each company charge to publish it on their console or platform? (If of course, it were approved by them at all)...

I am asking so I can accurately price some Kickstarter stretch goals. Thank you!

  • Thank you for your feedback, this is all useful information for how to pace the game and what features to include.

  • Good afternoon, I am asking a little research question for my game development project which is nearing completion of its prototype.

My question is regarding the 2D Pokemon RPG games. Specifically, what did you like about those games, what didn't you like, what would you add and what would you take away.

    For example, I really liked-

The emergent strategy arising from choosing a team and move-sets for that team.

Each Pokemon has a limited move set of 4.

Pokemon has elemental strengths and weaknesses.

    Evolutions!

No Pokemon were impossible to catch.

Pokemon captured at the beginning were still useful at the end-game.

Some things I would have liked changed were-

I would have liked a deeper story and more interesting characters.

More world-building and background (for example, what ARE Pokemon? Have they always been here or did they recently arrive and kill all the regular animals?!)

More sprite animations for in-battle abilities (I understand this was partly due to software limitations).

Better balancing (no completely useless Pokemon).

    More end-game content.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Just got done adding touch controls for the first time in a game of mine (translucent game pad is a temporary item for testing).

Took less time than I expected but a great step accomplished. Feeling proud.

Development blog is here if you are interested, thank you for the continued support.

  • I think I'll do as corlenbelspar suggests. It'll still be a lot of backwards engineering but it seems the most suitable for my level of competence.

  • You are correct, an Or block each time would work.

However I have created an entire complex game with keyboard controls, and now want to map touch screen and gamepad controls.

I'm just hoping it will be easier than making dozens of Or blocks...

  • I'm almost done with the mechanics for my JRPG, its basically like the old GameBoy Pokemon games (but with no items).

So all of the mechanics are definitely possible with C2. If you have specific questions I can try to help.

  • Good morning, is there a way to map keys easily. For example-

If A is pressed, behave as if X were pressed.

If This area of the screen is touched, behave as if A were pressed.

    Thank you.

  • Great, thank you for the feedback guys. I will start putting together a logical order for the tutorials and keep you updated.

So far, topics I have that might be interesting are-

Transition from over-world to town / dungeons.

    Transition to menus

Inventory system for Monsters (a Pokemon style monster list)

    Random battle encounters

    Turn based battle system

    Monster and player stats

    Damage calculation

    Buffs and De-buffs

    Exp and leveling mechanics

    Capturing new monsters!

    Dialogues and quests

Also I have a nice British accent that I hope will give the videos a little extra class
