  • Did Ashley give em a little kick or something, that's surely not the behavior that I'm used to see from them.

Anyway, we got a workaround with a minimum of downsides that should be good for now.

The bug is still somewhere but now they can feel free to take more time for finding and fixing it.

Thumbs up, I hope they keep on with this working speed in the future and thanks again Ashley for reporting the issue to them in a professional way!

  • Sorry for shamelessly using this topic to gather everyone's attention but we've recently opened up a bug report in the Chromium Bugs forum.

Even though it's not directly about the recording issues, it might still be possible that they are related to this bug.

To come to my point, I would like to request all C2 members to go over to Chromium Bugs and give the report a star.

By giving it a star you're providing active support and making the bug more noticeable to the chromium developers.

This is easier than you think, you just have to login with your Google account and simply click on the empty star on the upper-left side, DONE!

Thanks a lot and let's hope that we get these bugs out of the way as soon as possible!

  • Hmm, error code 2 is ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND (The system cannot find the file specified). Is it actually exporting a JS file?

Does it work again if you immediately go back to r239 and try again? If not it could be a Java update that broke it.

If the minifier doesn't run, you should simply be left with an unminified JS file, and everything should still work fine.

I can confirm that on my end the new version of Java is at fault, I just installed v8 (111) and now it's also broken for me.

I did manually re-install both 32 and 64 bit versions with the same result.

My guess is that they might have changed the paths to certain files in the latest version.

If there is a way to manually set the path I would test it out if requested.

  • I guess it's because of the way that the projects panel is coded in C2.

A part of this request also included selecting multiple objects at once and Ashley responded HERE.

This quote pretty much sums it up for you:

We'll keep these ideas in mind for Construct 3.

  • I'll give this one over to our JS devs in the C2 discord server.

I will post an update about it here as well.

EDIT: Could be requested in a different topic if desperately needed.

  • Sure. Twitch is the new Youtube.

Or as TheRealDannyyy might say "welcome to the 20's"

I'd say "welcome to the future" but you were close enough.

... trying to get something that wasn't meant to be recorded changed. ...

Technically the web/browsers weren't meant to be used as a gaming platform either and look where we are now.

So I think it would be a valid point to let the browser vendors "catch up" and make it possible to use a fair amount of screen recorders to record the game canvas.

The developers behind their screen recording software, don't give a damn about specifically working around recording issues, unless your game is "worth" the effort.

Sure some of them might look into it but mostly only AAA games are able to get their full attention and get a custom workaround for their games.

    Also Ashley Twitch streaming?

    Can we do that?

Test it out yourself or ask one of us, no need to call Ashley in for that.

If OBS or Xsplit are able to capture the game canvas, they should also be able to stream it.

  • Just a little note about the custom Electron exporter:

Construct 2 free edition users are

    NOT

allowed to use the Electron desktop exporting method and its plugins!

Please make sure that you own a personal or business license, if you don't own one of those two you are violating the rules (section: B) of the licensing agreement.

People that want to test out the beta plugins made by Armaldio, feel free to join our discord server and visit the "electron-export" channel for more information.

We will soon create a topic in the C2 forums that should give you an insight on everything.

Thanks and sorry that we interrupted this topic, we don't want to get into any legal issues with Scirra.

  • OK, I tried.

There's no work around, and no point in even trying to use some other method to record let alone make games in Construct 2 any more as your Youtube overlords can't be arsed to try something else.

I thought I was hard up, using depression as an excuse for a lack of creativity , but geez, not releasing a game because it can't be recorded beats my pickle.

Sounds like you're still living in the late 90s buddy.

Platforms like Youtube are slowly talking over your conventional TV entertainment, I mean just look at younger audiences for a second.

There are more young people watching entertaining videos or streams than the classic TV shows that we most-likely grew up with.

If you need more legitimate numbers as proof, feel free to use Google or Yahoo if you don't want to roll with the Google "overlords" as well.

BackendFreak pretty much summed up the rest, so I don't feel the need to tell you the same things all over again.

All I'm saying is that you shouldn't underestimate the power of those kind of platforms, especially not in 2016+.

  • I just did a vid with it at 1708, 960 of just particles, and it was way above 30 fps.

    Subscribe to Construct videos now

Granted the ram kept going up, but it was at a slow rate.

Could this be a hardware issue?

Not a reliable test, you should use a fairly demanding game with a 16:9 ratio and record in today's standard, which currently is 720plch@60fps.

You will notice heavy framedrops in fullscreen mode or slowly but steadily increasing memory usage in maximized windowed mode.

At some point I will try to report this to the NWjs team but I bet that they will redirect me to somewhere else because their browser isn't the only one that crashes while using the canvas recording feature.

Besides that, even if it would fully work as intentional, you'd still have to work around the relative game resolution "issue" that C2 games have.

EDIT: Your uploaded video is in 480p and you can also notice how it stutters, which kinda proves my point about the framerate issues.

  • Update 18:03 GMT: the original download did not start due to a digital signature error. We've updated the download with a fix so please download it again if you see an error. Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • How does it work non fullscreen?

You kind of have to do that anyway to reduce rez.

Same with 720p@30fps, everything below that is 2008 standard and shouldn't be recorded and uploaded to begin with (unless we're talking about older games).

As much as I like this feature, it's currently not a good alternative compared to screen recording software.

EDIT: I'm talking about canvas recording and not self-recording, which isn't the problem in this case anyway (

    Recording gameplay issue

    ).

  • Just a friendly reminder, self recording can be implemented in as few as 2 events.

It is a reasonable workaround if you take steps to optimise, such as reducing resolution etc.

VP9 JS error is fixed, framerate issues while recording persist.

This is not the fault of NWjs though, the recording API is at fault and I have no clue how to proceed.

You seem to be quite active and know a lot about this stuff, any tips?

  • I don't have this bug. But I made an Electron-Version:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5FlDY ... sp=sharing

You have to double click for fullsreen.

Yep already saw the test results in our discord channel for electron exporting.

    ---

I've created a bug report on their git, I'd appreciate some feedback and maybe an upvote, which usually helps to get the attention of a NWjs team member.

Ashley feel free to comment on the report and correct any mistakes, keep in mind that I'm not an expert so some parts of the report might be inaccurate.

(Of course all C2 members and/or people with knowledge about the web can take part in the report as well.)

  • Um, so instead of making events to change a few variables, you want to change a feature to allow you to choose what variables not to change?

I think he just wants a way to reduce the repetitive work that's involved in setting multiple variable values at once.

I guess C3 could bring changes to this by using special "filters" where you can select your variables.

So basically instead of a drop-down menu with the option of only selecting one variable, a listview with all variables were you can select multiple ones could be the solution to this and make things a lot easier.

  • ... One person says he has this issue on Windows 7 Ultimate. So it turns out it's not OS dependent.

I've got an idea about the NWjs issues and how we could determine if it's really NWjs/C2 or crappy drivers that are at fault here.

Since Armaldio got that Electron exporting to work, how about him or someone else that already tested out the "new" exporting method, export your example from this bug report using Electron and then test out if the issues are still occurring. I think that way we be at least 90% sure that it's NWjs's or C2's fault and not the fault of drivers that almost always get blamed on first.

I've posted this here because I felt like people that are not in our Discord should also know about our progress in finding a fix for these issues.
