  • I don't know. I just blew the dust off my old windows vista and gave it a try. It didn't work at first but after updating firefox it also works. I don't have a win 7 so I can't check that system.

You could look through you're mouse settings and see if there's anything that maybe interfering. I think some of the windows themes affect the mouse properties too so you could try switching to the basic theme if you aren't already using it. Check if you have any ff plugins that could affect the cursor. Other than that I'm out of ideas.

Switched off Aero, disabled script + adblockers and it's still the same.

I really think this is a Firefox on Windows 7 issue but I can't be 100% sure.

Would be nice if other Win7 (64bit) users could check this out and share their results.

  • works for me. I'm on win 10. and the latest stable ff browser.

    try updating your FF browser

"Note: cursor: none; is not supported until Firefox 3, Safari 5, and Chrome 5. Not at all supported in IE or Opera. "

I did reproduce this in Firefox v53.0 (32-Bit) which is the latest stable build.

Could this perhaps be an OS related issue?

  • Problem Description

As the title says, the action to set the mouse cursor invisible (none) is broken in Firefox.

    Attach a Capx

    Download the capx there.

    Description of Capx

Simple example to reproduce the bug.

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Open the capx and enter the preview in Firefox
    • Click on the "none" button
    • Notice that the mouse cursor is still the same

    Observed Result

The action to set the mouse cursor to none doesn't seem to work in Firefox.

    Expected Result

The mouse cursor should be invisible after clicking on the button.

    Affected Browsers

    • Firefox: (YES)

    Operating System and Service Pack

Windows 7 with latest updates and up to date drivers.

    Construct 2 Version ID

Newest release r244 Steam release. [Personal Edition]

  • Yeah, I've done that, the problem is my game is in a letterbox style...with black borders at the top and bottom. The mouse cursor is hidden until you hover over the black borders. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. Thanks for the reply though

Yeah that sucks, no clue if I can find a workaround for that. Manually executing JS to hide the mouse cursor might do it.

  • I can reproduce, Ashley could you please look into this?

This is really concerning and could affect a lot of projects.

  • This was really helpful! Thanks! In my game, which is a 2d side scroller, right clicking makes the character roll. But it was also making the context menu pop up on screen. Now if I can just find a way to hide the mouse cursor completely....

You can, using the mouse plugin and setting the cursor to "none".

  • We haven't released the effect SDK yet. We'll document it when it's ready.

    Thanks for the info.

I really hope that it will be ready before the Newgrounds gamejam starts, I'd like to make use of some amazing 3rd party C2 effects.

  • Sorry for basically re-posting this but Ashley could you please give a short statement about the thing below.

Thanks and help would be very much appreciated.

Hey there, just a short question regarding effects in Construct 3.

Could you guys provide us a page on how to port over C2 effects into C3?

I assume C3 is still using the same backend for effects so a page with steps on how to create a "C3effectaddon" file would be great.

Thanks for the SDK by the way, should make a lot of things easier for our JS Dev's.

  • Someone found this already: https://www.scirra.com/doc/c3sdk/index.html

No time to officially announce it still, the community is faster. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing">

  • Support for SDK is in the new release. Documentation coming shortly, will open a Javascript SDK forum now where docs will be posted when available.

Thanks for the clarification and quick response. Looking forward towards the documentation.

  • Support for first release of plugin SDK.

Maybe it's just me but I can't seem to find any links regarding this.

Was this just an upstream announcement or is it out already?

A quick heads up would be very much appreciated, thanks!

  • was this error fixed?

This is a more complex issue that cannot easily be "fixed", I think so at least.

There are a lot of factors in play that make it impossible for some game recorders to either detect or record gameplay.

While I personally blame the browser vendors for making things difficult for game recorders,

it's not really up to them to find the perfect recording software to record gameplay.

Professional content creators (YouTube, Twitch etc.) should always use a variety of recording software

to ensure that they're able to record all kinds of games, even the ones that run on weird browser engines.

    ---

Idea For A Dedicated Topic Which Lists Supported Game Recorders:

I was thinking about creating a topic for this problem specifically.

The topic would basically be a huge list of game recorders including information like:

    > Did the game recording work as intended?

    > On which version of NW.js and OS was the test run on?

    > Were there any workarounds involved in order to get it to work?

    > And other recorder specific information...

This topic of mine would be fairly simple, I'd probably create a short google form that people can make use of.

I would also include some sort of template that Steam developers could post in their game-hub (Steam Discussions),

in order to inform content creators about recommended recording software for their Construct 2/3 games.

Would you guys be interested in that, should I create a dedicated topic for supported game recorders?

  • It was added in r242 back in January.

Just a few seconds quicker, thanks again for that by the way.

I think you can feel free to release all the recent changes from the beta as stable soon.

At least on my end everything works as intended with audio specifically.

  • Hi Ashley,

Did you ever find the time to update the audio plugin to allow audio release from memory? If not, could you confirm if this option will still be added in C2 at a later date. Will the option be available in C3 at least?

I really think the ability to release audio, freeing up extra memory space, would be a a very useful addition, and would allow developers to expand their use of audio within their games.

    Cheers

It's already available in the latest C2 Beta (r242).
