    Some very subjective tips:

    • Always make a style board before you start a project.
    • Colour theory is more important than anything else.
    • You don't need to be able to draw, you just need to be able to keep going until it looks good.
    • Focus on removing detail rather than adding it.
    • Don't look at games for creative inspiration.

A couple of sites for inspiration:

Also if you like the art for Mortar Melon, check out the game Mush that I also did art for.

  • Eisenhans it will be to begin with, then we'll be hitting up various other platforms.

  • A simple plugin that allows you to define a .cur file as a custom cursor.

Cursor files have full cross-browser compatibility, so will work on Internet Explorer and in turn Windows 8 apps.

Hotspots are defined in the cursor file - in order to have control over that I'd suggest downloading a cursor editing tool (I used Sib Cursor Editor).

    .CUR Cursors

  • Yes. It's essentially got Chromes capabilities.

  • +1

The current search hiding everything is a bit frustrating as I lose the context of the logic I'm looking at.

  • Can't you just set it as immovable, then programmatically update its position. That's what I do for floating platforms that move side to side.

  • Cheers guys! Looking forward to showing the trailer in the next few weeks hopefully :)

  • We've just released a new desert world for Mortar Melon:

rag the mortar, aim, and fling the melon to collect the fruit! Whizzing through the air you?ll fly across the world, tapping and dragging your environment to release the juicy goods! Look out for pointy objects or you?ll explode on impact, sending melony chunks and pips flying! It?s a crazy, fruity, physics machine - launching its way onto Windows 8!

A big thanks to everyone that tested and Scirra for the great engine and support.

  • Probably best to post in the 'How do I' forums to get help.

  • Ninjadoodle Good stuff - let me know how it goes, I'm intrigued as to whether it would work.

  • If both games are being hosted on the same domain, you should theoretically be able to do cross-game webstorage.

So in GAME1 you save a key as GAME1HEALTH. Then you fire up GAME2 and load GAME1HEALTH it should work too.

This won't work on places like the Scirra Arcade as they prepend locastorage with a unique ID. For that I guess you'd need to look at Ajax and a serverside implementation.

  • This plugin is great for debugging arrays: http://www.scirra.com/forum/log-text-Objects-to-chrome-console_topic47859.html

But yeah, it sounds like the text object isn't big enough.

  • Try Construct 3

  • LayoutWidth+((LayoutWidth-ProjectWindowSize)*(ParallaxAmount-1)

^ This seems to work :)

  • Hi all,

This is probably really simple, but my brain is having a hard time figuring it out.

How do I get the far right Y coordinate of a layout, taking into consideration a layers parallax.

LayoutWidth works fine for parallax 0,0. How would I then calculate what this would be on a layer with parallax 150,150.

Any help would be great :)

  • Every object that you want to create dynamically needs to exist in a layout. I just have a 'placeholder' layout where I plonk everything.
