  • If you're not up to using expressions yet the same result can be achieved without them. I tested both methods and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the sprite movement.

Keyboard/On Right arrow pressed/Sprite/Move at angle/4 pixels at angle 0

Keyboard/On Left arrow pressed/Sprite/Move at angle/4 pixels at angle 180

If you use large distances though, the jump rather than fluid movement of a behaviour will be more noticeable.

  • Just got an alert that iphone app 'Developer Toy' is reduced from $12.99 to $1.19 Australian dollars. Today only probably. Bought it, looks interesting, even if it does turn out to be a toy only, will be fun to play with and cheap enough.

  • Got it working now, didn't work before because my Direct X wasn't updated and Effects weren't working. And in this case the clouds had a blur effect. Fun game. You could also have it so that trigger happy bomb dropping that didn't land on a building reduced the score.

  • I installed Classic and still had the same problem so it had to be me.

The problem was, I wasn't connected to the internet when I installed 97.99 or r1. So the Direct X updates that I had already installed at some point did not get updated. I had made the assumption that nothing would have changed and was wrong. Now I'm all updated and everything works fine.

I've also added the two effects that I had originally wanted and they work fine too. So now I'm a happy cat again.

  • Hi,

    I'm using 99.97

In any cap, old or new, when I add any effect to any sprite, Construct crashes with the message

    'Construct has stopped working'

    Last week I downloaded

    advanced filter.fx and

    color replace.fx

I can't remember now for sure, but when I put color replace in the effects folder, there might have already been one there, if so, I replaced it.

I don't know if effects were working before I added those new ones as I just started using Construct again.

I've now removed the two effects from the effects folder and also reinstalled Construct. It still crashes when I add an effect to a sprite. Is it just me? The fresh installation doesn't include color replace.fx so maybe I was wrong about it already being there.

  • humanoidshane, sorry, I missed your reply until now.

Yes, I could have it update the time every second, (1000 milliseconds - I think that's what you meant when you said 0.001ms).

Unfortunately though, the simplicity of the way it is now appeals to me too much to change it. Having the rotate behaviour do most of the work is something my mind can't resist. Stupid, I know.

I'll have a tinker and see if I can find some hack workaround.

  • I made a working analogue clock to put into a game. The event pic below says it all except that the hands have the rotate behaviour. It's not good enough by itself to be an actual clock app, but more suitable for adding interest to a room in a game.

  • Hi, yes I did unzip and all that. Have successfully run other un/zipped caps. I don't know what the difference between load the cap or run the cap is. But when I double click on the cap, Construct opens up, I see your sprites in the object list but straight away everything freezes up. Perhaps something has gone wrong with the cap you've uploaded and the one already on your computer is fine?

  • Didn't get that cap to work.

But eventually found R0J0hounds path plugin:

    http://www.scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5693&hilit=path+behaviour

I can't tell the difference between them anyway.

I can get the very basic example cap from R0J0 to work. Would still like to see the city bomber one though.

  • Hi

Your path plugin should be just what I'm looking for. I've done the necessary extracting and pasting into Scirra plugins folders. The Path Movement behavious shows up in my cap in 99.97 fine.

I need help in understanding how to use it though so opened up your example City Bomber cap. Construct crashed and windows displayed a generic message: 'A problem caused the program to stop working correctly' I tried many times with the same results.

Any thoughts on what could be going wrong?

    Thanks

  • Human error strikes again. After deleting the event with the non existent sprite, the original event that I was having trouble with still didn't work. I had mistakenly deleted an action that gave the position of a spite when I had only intended to change the co ordinates of that position.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Problem solved. How right you were Ashley with your forgotten event advice.

I had already checked all the events and actions involving the caterpillar block. Except one. I had an Event group that I didn't expand to look at because it was some ancient bit that I experimented with a long time ago. There was a collision event in it that made the block visible. Just testing something. I forgot what. So in my deleting-unused-sprites session yesterday I deleted one of the collision objects which made the block be visible action active.

Lesson learned. Don't mindlessly delete sprites without checking first to see if they are in any events or actions.

    Relief. Thanks for the advice.

  • I added some gradients to bg tiles, tweaked a few sprites, deleting a lot of unneeded experimental sprites that were off screen and was feeling happy with the results. Saved the game as a new version.

My main character is a caterpillar. I had a caterpillar sprite and also a block sprite representing him that was set to invisible in its properties.

Now when I run the game the block sprite is visible. Then I added an always event to make him invisible but he still shows. I also tried turning off his invisibility in properties in case that interfered with the event. Nope. I could give up and reduce his opacity to 0% but the fact that he's still there is ruining one of my events. The old version of the game works fine. Does anyone know what could be making my block sprite persist despite the fact he's meant to be invisible?

    I'm using Construct 99.62

    Thanks

  • I like the graphics. I was able to do reasonably well a couple of times but that seemed to be due to luck. It seemed a bit unfair though that after a bit of progress and then getting hit by the flying ball the worm is put back to the beginning of the layout. Unless I was so bad that I never reached a 'save' point.
