  • Are you saying it can not pull a page from an ip? I get it doesn't support, DIVS, FRAMES etc, but if it uses any sort of http protocol it would be able to load a page. If its not able to that's fine, but if it is the loader idea would be very useful.

  • I have not used Ejecta yet or Construct2 in a very long time. But something thats hand in other game engines are apps called loaders, where you can download a projects code and run it without having to build the project.

Since Eject is a web browser at hear, how hard would it be to make a blank Ejects app that allows you to put in an IP & port to connect to the Construct2 preview server?

  • I had 2 iPad 4's, your game should scale, yes it will not look as crisp but should be fine. I haven't done any mobile apps with Construct 2 yet so I can not tell you the speed difference.

  • Just a report back, I tested the example Space Blaster exported as a Mac APP on one my Macs with Core i7 quad processor with 16gb ram.

It never used over 2% CPU, sound and graphics were spot on, the controls little odd, but I think it was designed a touch app. It was too easy to take your mouse out of the window, but full screen mode fixed it and ran flawlessly.

  • Also stumbled across this for mobile webkit..

    trac.webkit.org/wiki/Mobile

Any ideas if it could be of use to Construct 2 users as a mobile app creator?

  • Glad to hear that Construct 2 will export directly to exe and Mac APPs via Web NodeKit.

Now if that canvas could be wrapped for mobile one day (ie Phonegap).

What would be even as awesome (well almost), would be Construct 2 editor as a Mac application.

Once you pull that off you would have some major advantages over some of the "other Html" engines. Not saying Construct 2 doesn't already have some over the others.

Now if we can get a away to create mobile apps faster (better) and possible Mac / Linux editor would be awesome, but 1 thing at a time.

    So again good move!

  • Newt, I been nothing but nice here so not sure what you are laughing at, I'm not being a fanboy either or drinking the Koolaid. And I am not the only the only pointing this out. Check out Spriter forums and Gideros forums there are threads there downing Construct for the advertising. I was trying to bring it to Scirra attention that its not being taken well outside of the reality distortion field.

All those "OPTIONS" in your screen shot are basically the same thing, just packaged slightly different for another programmers product to do the work of making it in to a "real app", I use that term loosely.

Also I own 3 new IOS6 devices and Construct's HTML 5 demo games run like crap on them using the built in Safari. Even my Playbook doesn't run them well or the 8 other Android devices I have, so no HTML 5 web games and mobile do not mix.

2 Ipad 4's and 1 iPhone 5, the games that have any action at all all suck, plain and simple.

HTML 5 is not a gaming platform, unless you want to count how many particles you can put on a screen. That may change, but currently I don't see many AAA html 5 games that are FPS's

I stated in a few threads I praised Scirra for what they (Ashley) have done, but the facts are there isn't a native way to publish and those free 3rd party options may not always be free or available.

Also a whooping 10,000 active users for free until you pay, please thats a low number I have apps with over half a million installs tens of thousands of active users still not banking much from them.

I have over 80 published APPs, not a single one from Construct, you know why because it's a crap shoot to figure out if they will work properly with Cocoon / AppMobi etc.

The IDE's I use to create them I know they will work on the majority of user devices without having to rely on some 3rd party hacks or hand editing code.

So newt, seriously what's so funny again?

How many Construct 2 apps do you have in Google Play or the App Store?

Newt, your game page ? pixelbyter.blogspot.com

I am leaving this thread, because it is turning in to something I did not intend, just more of a public view of other forums about Scirra. I guess the messeger is the evil one in this case so I let you guys be happy in your own little microcosm.

Lol I can't even capture all the platform options.

And he's not near finished with those. Soon there should be Boot to Geko, and I imagine Node for desktop as well.

Complain all you want, but consider the fact that you not only need a license from Apple to publish to Ios, but approval as well.

    3rd party options

  • Have you seen the home page lately, and no the other Engines I work with that display IOS & Android actually do directly export to ISO and Android.... Shiva 3d, Unity 3D, Corona, Gideros, GameMaker, Stencyl to name a few.

Tell me how this isn't misleading...

    <img src="http://70d.com/images/publishto.png" border="0" />

To top it all off IOS & Android are listed first!

  • When people buy something they are paying and buying now, they are not buying someday or wishful thinking unless disclosed to them not available but upcoming features.

The export is not Construct, but some other software, I think it should be clarified that Construct does not natively export directly to the advertised platforms and requires a 3rd party to do it.

I know Scirra is a one man company for the most part, and Ashley's done a great job, but you still have to watch how you advertise your products. Others outside this forum are talking about this, so it must be an issue with someone.

C2 uses a modular export system, so there is no doubt, in my mind, that there will be an exporter to those native systems.... someday.

    a

Remember there is only one person working on this, and Ashley has stated he will not work on that part till he is satisfied with the Html5 portion.

In fact all current methods of publishing are html5 based

That's actually quite an achievement when you think about it.

    So, false advertising? Not really.

    Wishful thinking? Perhaps.

Also, remember most browsers play these games. Even on mobiles.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I was just in another forum where someone stated Scirra was falsey advertising Construct 2.

Their point seemed kind of valid, so here it is...

On Scirra's home page IOS & Android logos are displayed as big as the HTML 5 one giving the impression that Construct 2 game engine directly publishes to these platforms (instead of advertising AppMobi or Cocoon)

I like Construct 2, but by no means do I currently consider it a mobile platform game development system.

Heck I asked I think a month or so ago what route show I go to make a mobile game (ie Cocoon or Appmobie) and even Ashely didn't give a response, he did reply to the thread indicating to me there is no "best" or even great route to make decent AA mobile games with Construct.

The poster stated they thought that Scirra was advertising IOS & Android is because Gamemaker can natively publish to these platforms, so Scirra is trying to me a ME TOO it seems.

    .... flame suit on :p

  • It's great with mobile for my apps that require lots of power. Even 3D games made with construct work great!

Can I ask what you are using to crate the mobile apps. CocoonJS, Appmobi ?

  • So what I have gotten there is still no clear best way for mobile and it's still in progress.

Don't get me wrong Construct 2 has came a long ways in a short time, but it sounds like it still has a little ways to go before prime time mobile apps are easily created.

  • Agreed, Admob, Applovin and Leadbolt is where it's at!

  • I've owned Construct 2 since it's early beta release, and held off doing anything with it because it was young and lacked support for I wanted to do. We have decent 3D game engines for mobile apps, but some times we want to do 2D apps.

Well outside of Game Salad (which sucks for ad networks and their owners don't give a rats behind about Android ad networks it seems) and Game Maker Studio (which is really new to the market) and the over priced Corona with no visual level designer...

I want to revisit Construct 2 again and see if it's ready to publish games for Android and possibly iPhone.

Is Construct 2 ready for mobile games?

What is the best way to publish/export AppMobi or Cocoon? Seriously what are you guys using.

Can you use a real ad network ie Admob/LeadBolt/Applovin with these exports?

I mean Android users are mostly free loaders and free games with Ads seem to work the best, if I can not make money off developing a game then no use doing it.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I'll be honest, I purchased C2 knowing it would not do for me what I needed at the time. I know html5 is a horrible way to go currently for many reasons and it takes something like Appmobi to make it usable on mobile phones.

What I need is not there yet looking at the release notes, but if Appmobile gets in to advertising with us developers then their prices should some down to entice more people to sign up making them even more money.

I researched many many engines, almost went with Corona, but they want $399 a year for PRO and they don't really have a IDE for crying out loud, no visual editor no text editor, really...

I am using Shiva right now because it supports, PC's,Mac's, BlackBerry's, IOS devices, Android, web via their plugin and they are add Stage 3d (new flash support) and Google Native

I say this not to down Construct 2, I really want it to grow in to an mature game making environment for mobile and during that growth I hope Appmobi realigns how it does business with us.

C2 is possible one of the easiest ways to make games, Shiva is not but I went for the device support for now and hoping one day to see C2 as one of my main dev environments for 2d games.
