  • Problem Description

Every now and then, C2 crashes with this box popping up:

(Sorry for the picture quality, I had to take it with a phone camera because I couldnt take a screenshot!)

This seems to happen after C2 has been minimized and brought up again. Clicking either of the available buttons simply makes the dialogue box pop up again immediately. There's no way out of the crash without restarting the PC - somehow it even stops ctrl-alt-del from working.

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

Not much idea unfortunately. I know this isn't very helpful but I thought I'd report it because it seems to hang the OS.

    Operating System and Service Pack

    Win7 64bit

    Construct 2 Version ID

    r175

  • A web build is not an option - it lacks authenticity and most of all it disallows distribution like Steam. Plus, there are a bunch of Chrome bugs involving music loading that flat-out prevents a Chrome build for me.

  • We really need some way to put pressure on the NW people, or even get someone working on our own fixes (it's open source, right?) because this is ridiculous.

  • Agreed - I'd definitely like to see an option to slow down the game instead of increasing dt.

  • Contrary to (weirdly widespread) belief, number of layouts has NO effect on performance. Number of variables shouldn't either (unless you're up in the millions) but for the case you're talking about, you need to use a data structure such as webstorage or an array, just for convenience purposes.

  • That sounds awesome!

  • Eisenhans oh OK, fair enough. I didn't look into it too much to be honest, just seems like a weird problem for them to have left standing for so long.

  • Yeah, I know, that is the annoying issue. Linux support is clearly stated on their site, so I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work for non-C2 applications - the issue is probably C2's features/implementation of NW. So, I fear that we'll go years with neither party really taking any responsibility for getting it fixed.

  • The issue here is not whether Linux export is 'worth it', it's the fact that part of C2's advertized functionality is broken and in need of fixing.

  • A web version is not viable for a variety of reasons, Steam being the main one.

There are of course better things to worry about, but you seem to be the only one who thinks it's not a concern.

For instance, Humble Bundle won't even take your game if it doesn't support Linux. There's definitely demand there.

  • I'm not sure - you can check twitch.tv/indiemegabooth and go into the recordings.

  • newt Linux is a considerably higher portion of the gaming market. It's not a question that Linux is worthwhile especially since Valve has embraced it as 'The future of gaming'.

  • Yes indeed, this is very disappointing. Scirra really should be looking into this...

  • Probably code related... otherwise your pc has problems

  • Sorry we were a bit disorganized today - next time I'll hopefully have something better planned out!
