  • I think it would be useful for the line of sight behavior to have a range option. It would be helpful in the cases where you don't want an enemy to see you from all across the level. Of course, I'd think it would be even cooler if you could have a forward range and a backward range, basically so enemies could detect stuff farther in front of them than behind them. Any chance this could be added?

    I would do this using an x.y comparison between the enemy and the player. I guess it would make it easier though if there was a range option so you wouldn't have to do this for every instance of something.

  • These things still rely on showing you ads, which is annoying. My FTP is set up in My Network Places, so I can just copy+paste a file on to my FTP in windows explorer. I think that's even easier...

    Yeah it's definately the way to go if your ISP gives you a descent amount of space and bandwidth. I think I have like 100Mb whoopie-doo!

    At least FileDen doesn't require that the person downloading the file to view ads etc.

    Oh and also, FileFront... how could I forget that? FileFront is great... No ads, heaps of storage and bandwidth... just a tad slowish, but hell it scores big on the things that really count.

  • For some wierd reason the action "set focus off" in the edit box seems to disable the 8 direction movement. I have to say that is one of the most random bugs i've found so far.

    It disables it permanantly? or does it work again if you click in the game window with the mouse and try again?

    I think it might actually do more to unify her color scheme.

    Might as well mock up a few different color schemes while we're in the early stages and see what's up. And yeah, I think the backgrounds should be redone, but let's wait until we nail down the colors for the character, I think it'll be easier that way.

    As for the wall jumping and whatever, maybe it's because there's no animation? I dunno, it still works for me though it's not as easy. It's not like this is an official version anyway, it's just a sprite test.

    I figured it was something to do with the animations or whatever as to why it's not working. It could also be because I am a bit stupid sometimes. I'll play around with it again later, but could you relink me to the last working version you did just after the wall slide thing? Since fileshack went down I haven't been able to get it again, and I want to show my mate how it's coming along.

  • I know ads suck, but FileDen is pretty good. Direct linking and everything... only catch is you have to log in at least once every 30 days to keep your files (they email you a reminder though which is good) and if you don't log in BEFORE recieving the reminder then you have to look at like 3-4 ads to get into your account.

    If you access it all the time like me, then you never get bugged.

    I'm thinking brown might just be a better colour... either that or change the backgrounds? Hmm, I might try black instead of brown acctually... the brown might blend too much with the red and skin tones... super dark grey and black would probably do the trick.

    The other thing is I can't seem to get her to wall jump at all now, and the ledge grab isn't working either? I think something is broken... either the game, or me... can't figure out which one. Probably the latter.

  • We surround ourselves with art everyday. Every household item is art in it's own respect.... they pay some designer to sit there and make it "look good"... therefore even the most mundane of things these days can be considered an art form.

    Cars, computer cases, the sofa you are sitting on, the chrome toaster in the kitchen... etc etc

    The hands were pissing me off, so I left them. Hands are not the easiest things to draw in the first place, but when they are small like that it's even harder lol. I'll fix them up properly later on. The skin is pinky probably due to my totally awesome monitor at work, with it's "worlds best" colour gamut and fully sick contrast ratio .I'll get right on that before it's too late.

    deadeye, try throwing that frame in the game as a seperate object that you can just test out and see what it looks like against the background. I think the saving grace is going to be that the boots and shorts have a blue tinge to them, and the jacket is acctually a dark purple. I went straight off Dave's colour in with the colour picker. Let me know if we need to brighten them up a bit or something if they clash badly with the background. Also I guess keep in mind I have some ideas for the background as well instead of just having that plain concrete looking backdrop.

    I'll also try making the collar shorter too because her neck is really a good length, but deadeye is right... it looks a little short because the collar is pretty tall. I'll drop that down a bit and see what it looks like.

    The pose I drew is not the most compelling one either, but I figured it was the best place to start in order to get a full view of how she should look overall. I think some of the other animations are going to look a little more interesting, especially the (painful) new idea I have for the handplant animation sequence.

    Oh, and deadeye, can you see how she looks scaled down as well? I kinda drew her to suit 1900x1200 resolution for those people lucky enough to own a 24" monitor. I'll even be using a scaled down version of her at 1680x1050 lol. I just want to make sure that she's still going to look good in 800x600 and not too ill-defined.
