  • I've been using the same computer for years now, and Linux has never crashed. I don't buy the whole "buy a new computer" argument because my PC is upgradable, and a Frankenstein of my own creations. I'm not stupid about computers, I'm just sick of having to play the Windows game when I never asked to play it.

Seriously, Linux runs so smoothly on my system, but put Windows on there, and after a fresh install, it's fine. After updates, it's fine. Try to do anything else on it, and it can't stand it. I didn't build a computer to have it look nice on my desk, I built it to develop on.

To be more accurate, it's not C2 that is crashing, it's WINDOWS that is crashing for God-knows-why. I've troubleshot, I've done everything I know how to do to keep Windows running well.

When I don't have to do anything of the sort with Linux, what does that say?

Also, I keep my insides clean. Sure the cover is off and it looks like an ancient dinosaur, but the parts are fresh and in great working condition, and I KEEP my pieces clean and seated well. It's WINDOWS that's the problem.

  • I know this question has been asked before, but I'm starting a new thread to reignite the topic.

I've had it, I've had it, I've had it, I've had it, I've had it, I've had it, I've had it, I've had it with Windows.

Anyways, I'm hoping you guys were working on a Linux version of the software. One too many blue screens, one too many lost projects, one too many hairs falling out of my head and I just turned 30 a few months ago, this is RIDICULOUSNESS.

The free OS I'm using...Linux...Mint to be specific... that hasn't crashed on me, it hasn't given me any fits, it hasn't done anything that I didn't first tell it to do. Windows CONSTANTLY blue screens, and NOW I can't find my Windows product key (it HAD to be stolen as it was sitting right next to my monitor...no more D&D at my place it seems) and I'm just not in the mood to cry or complain or anything about Windows...instead I'm just ready for a real solution without everyone treating the solution (Linux) like some read-headed step child.

My frustration is the constant support anyone would give to Microsoft after they deliberately stole from others, sued the ones they couldn't steal from and took their things anyways, and now Scirra wants to perpetuate their malpractice by offering Construct on Windows ONLY?

I really would like a refund, or a Linux version. None of this "well it's too late for that". No I actually trusted purchased software to be worth something. Again, talking about MS, not Scirra. Scirra, you guys are just the result of MS's software practices.

    Thanks.

  • Awesome, thank you very much! I had to get the R100 beta to use it. I hope the full version comes out, beta stuff is always iffy. Either way, thanks again!

  • I'm doing my best, but can't seem to figure it out. When I click (or touch) an icon (a music icon in this instance for sound disable/enable) I want it to go to the next frame, showing the same icon with an X over it. Just a graphical issue. When I program this in various ways, it either goes to the right frame, but won't go back when clicked again. Or it won't activate at all.

I have uploaded the CAPX file so it can be looked at.

MenuControlSheet has the options I've been working with, though I've thought the code should be in the SettingsSheet.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out with it.

    NEEDED RESULT:

    Go to Settings Screen

Click on Music icon and it changes to the Music with X icon, and turn off all music (which seems like it has to be done in it's own time since I don't have any music yet).

I'm most interested in the graphical implementation rather than the functionality of the purpose at the moment.

Below is the link to the ZIP that contains the CAPX.

  • Okay I figured it out, apparently it doesn't go back to the project folder. Is there a way to export as a single file so the project in the folder isn't confused by the computer so that the user doesn't get confused?

  • When I do this, does it keep saving to the single file or does it update the project folder I'm working with? And if it keeps saving to the single file, how can I update the project folder without it freaking out at me?

  • Cool!   <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • NP. Just ask one of the admins (I'm terrible at names) and they'll get your badge to you. I signed up under one email bought it with another, which is how my problem with the badges came up.

  • If you want, please feel free to expand and repost.

I found a bug earlier that kept me from jumping, but I couldn't duplicate it when I restarted the project.

I am also hoping others might come along and clean up some code, I'm so scatterbrained with these sort of things that I'm afraid I may have something in the wrong place that I'm missing.

Remember this is very very incomplete and still requires extensive work on it.

This is the best one I could find that I could stomach putting on here. And I'm in a t-shirt. :P

  • I was an avid MMF2 user, been working with this stuff since K&P waaaay back in the day when it was put out by Maxis. I have to say that the basics of it hasn't changed much at all to be more inclusive for a modern workflow. C2 is lightweight compared to MMF2, and seems far more powerful. I think the one thing that makes it nicer is that it's fully compatible with every platform that has an HTML5 rendering browser.

Being able to include event sheets has made the process very very streamlined. I love it more than anything for size sake, and keeps code cleaner on my end.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Oh so we have to post here for the badge? That makes sense. :P

  • Okay I just posted a really long reply and it took a while and I was logged out. Is there a problem with log out times? I mean, I'd rather log out on my own and I don't see any options in the settings for that. This is annoying because this is a topic I know and wanted to help but now I'm just throwing my hands up because I just lost EVERYTHING I typed out.

  • Well I'm sure there are other ways of doing it. I usually wake up from my sleep hours earlier because my subconscious tells me how to do things. (or god or whatever you wanna call it). Luckily I know a few ways that will work just fine with what I had in mind.

I'll just make a magenta colored version of a knife, blade, longsword, gun etc, then go to the sprites and draw the animations while making it "always set to image point X" and "always set animation to Player.AnimatinonName" along with "always set frame to Player.AnimationFrame"

I'm going to have to make a new item for each one being used, but luckily I'm doing a Castlevania style game play, so shield and sword will only be used in combat (and when idle if it's the last weapon you used).

And since I'm on the topic, is there any way of open sourcing this when I'm done so everyone can have a nice starting point to work with? I want to share this with others for rapid platform game development, but I don't know if my programming skills are good enough to ensure the fastest development experience. It's just a platform engine a la Castlevania (as I said) and not every animation is used, but can be implemented.

For example, I have many event sheets (five so far) for all his actions and animations, that way to keep organized without going crazy, but should I eventually put them all in one sheet and put them in groups to save on any headaches?

Sorry to sway so off topic there.

  • That's very good to know. I'll design my game around the concept because it seems very nice in many cases that aren't what I was asking about here, and I know they'll come in handy.
