  • My mind = blown

There are fine lines between crazy, smart, and crazy smart. I'll let you decide which one you are!

(I think why it looks more like lava than sand is the orange around the edges. It'd probably look more like sand if it were more of a brown.)

  • I gotta say, I'm diggin' it so far. The controls are tight and the visual style is very unique. Like Loaded meets Grim Fandango on an acid trip! I was impressed when I found out the music was an original piece by you as well. Well done I must say!

As far as any suggestions, I have to say I like the idea of randomizing the enemies and such, but I don't think it's a good idea to randomize the weapon every time. I found myself getting attached to a weapon and then getting stuck with one I didn't enjoy a few seconds later.

Maybe you can have random weapon drops through out the level instead. Similar to how you did the enemies, have more of one weapon spawn than another every 30 seconds.

  • ahr Ech Seriously, mate. I'm on pins and needles for this game! I could stare at that art style all day!

    Katala Please do. Please.

I am both horrified and aroused by this art. ..... I'm not sure why.

Are the hobos gonna be wizards? Ya know, with beard-o-mancy?

'cause.... ya know, the title Hobo Wizard is technically still available.

    HOBO WIZARD!

  • I've been working on the graphic elements for my game Super Awesome! for awhile, and I feel like I've hit an art block for the heads-up display. I've been looking at the same references for awhile (mostly 2D platformers/RPGs/adventure games from the SNES, genesis, and old pc eras), and they're not doing much for me so far.

I was just thinking that y'all might have some idea of some other games that had some interesting HUD designs that could jump start my creative juices again.

Just to give y'all an idea where I'm at, here's a half finished design I had floating around awhile.

  • Your art is so well done, it's almost discouraging!

Thanks (again)! I'm still waiting to see more of what you're working on.

  • Some of the animations from a base I was working on a few weeks ago. For random NPCs and such.

Um.... it goes without saying, the final versions will have clothes on.

    ... probably.

  • First off, I have to say the opening sequence (where the screen scrolls vertically showing the logos and such) was VERY[\b] well done. I love the atmosphere you're portraying.

The game plays pretty well, too. Though, I'd suggest giving the player more of a prompt to move when they're watching the brainwashing video. It took me two tries to figure out I was supposed to do something then.

  • This is a very simple, yet intriguing idea! Especially for a weekend challenge!

I felt like I was being led around by GLaD0S from portal, only I had to trust she wouldn't drop me into an invisible pit every other step.

It is possible. JoyfulDreamer has a psuedo 3D example on the arcade that might do the trick. It's pretty impressive. Though, from what I understand, it's a bit difficult to set up at first.

    Pseudo 3D Test

If you're looking to make something similar to Afterburner, that might work for ya.

What do you mean by flying games? Like flight sims? Or scrolling shooters?

  • So.... I normally get easily bored with this sort of game, but if this didn't just slap my mind around for a bit!

    You, sir, should be congratulated!

  • Gotta say, it's looking good so far from the screenshots.

Unfortunately, we can't play the game using the zip file. Whenever someone tries to open the index file from their computer, it will give them an error saying it must be uploaded to be played.

It's pretty easy to fix though. If you upload the contents of the zip file to your server and link the index file, it'll work just fine.

Yep, what spongehammer said! For me, however, it me awhile to figure out you could add additional points to the collision polygon by right click the hitbox and selecting add point.

Ya gotta be a bit careful with those. Adding a lot of points can cause some crazy physics reactions.

  • I am REALLY digging this. It seems like there's more to it than the average top-down shooter rampage.

Are you planning on letting the player customize how their character looks? I see a lot of variety with the characters on the field, and with a fashion diva like me, letting me go to town with how to make the player look would be the icing on the cake ice cream and puppies!
