  • Hi ,

    With my sahder experience i used classic noise function blend with texture;

You have old tv style ; added other shader here like cmyk... etc.

    So let's see wonder woman looking this shader;

Kind a late to the party but... do you still have this shader somewhere around ya? <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy"> Could I have a copy?

  • i do understand man, but it's a solution.. just do it. cocoon io is cool. i used to be a paid user of it (before going to C3) but to this day i've not found any solution that doesn't have some kind of gotcha.. this is the Achilles heal of Construct 2/3... the publishing pipeline blows.. cocoon is not bad.. your best bet is to make sure you make a game with as few plugins / third party requirements as possible..

you can have all of the obstacles and excuses in the world.. you're stuck with a problem.. try this suggestion.. if it doesn't work.. fine.. but crossing your arms and waiting for someone else to give you another solution is no more useful. you get 1 hour tonight. make it happen <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

check this link out too.. I don't remember watching a 30min video to learn Cocoon.. https://forums.cocoon.io/t/construct2-h ... ocoonio/45 there are some videos but don't worry.. the nice thing i like about cocoon is the plugin management.. it always felt nicer than how XDK did things.

I'm a father of two as well.. i do video game development for others as well and C2/C3 is my way to try and make games on my own on the side. So I feel your pain, but yea man just do it tonight.. so you lose one day.. or maybe two, but at least you know first hand why it is or is not your solution.. try it out.. give it a shot.. do a "hello world" don't try and port a full game over and expect it to work the first time.. start with something stupid simple.. a one touch button game or something with a couple of squares.. see how it goes..

I tried Cocoon awhile back and hated it.. but XDK was fucked up at the time at a later date and a tried it again and it worked.. sometimes you just have to do something even if that something doesn't deliver.. at least you do something.. and learn from it.

and no i'm not 100% happy with C3, but I'm investing in it, that's how I see it anyway. Maybe it will not work out but C3 is the future if Construct is going to thrive. Holding on to C2 because of what it should be is not going to help.. I'm glad to see Ashley is still offering support for C2 bug fixes, but honestly I wish he'd put more into C3 because yea it's a subscription and yea right now the publishing pipeline while nice, doesn't perform as well as it should.. simple side scroller runs at like 8-10fps.. but that SAME GAME on a browser in the same device is a solid 50fps..

Wow.... thank you buddy! That was incredibly nice and inspiring.

  • Dude are you seriously complaining about watching a video to learn a solution?

sounds like you should learn unity.. lots of text there for you to read.. i'm sure that will take no more than 30 minutes to figure out..

seriously listen to yourself. watch the video and move on.

I wake up at 6:00 AM. I have a full time job in a video game publishing company. I work from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I have a wife and two small kids. Around 9:00 PM all kids are in bed. I have to go to bed at around 10:00 PM.

On daily basis - I have approximately 60 minutes of free time.

I won't waste half of that to watch a video on youtube. Specially as it doesn't contain solution. Only a promise of it.

But you might try and be a little bit more understanding and not jump to conclusion so fast.

Believe or not - not all of Construct users are students and kids, living with their parents.

Your sudden, aggressive tone is needless.

30 min tutorial, 3-4 minutes to do once you learn it. It is actually faster than using IntelXDK, because you build locally and don't need to wait for the cloud transfer.

It is a really good tutorial because it goes through several errors and solutions you might hit. It would be great if someone converted this into a blog style post.

God yes please. I really have neither the patience nor the time to sit and watch a video for that long. Specially as I am a very fast reader and its easier to jump back and forth.

XDK is dead. Intel sun set it earlier this year. So that is no longer an option. It might still "work" but is not supported anymore.. which is a shame, but honestly i liked cocoon io better but i've moved on to Construct 3.. they build android apps for you. so no xdk/cordova/phonegap/cocoon needed. it's not perfect yet, but it's nice.

Sorry but I'm not gonna pay Scirra twice for something that should be here long time ago <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz">

  • You're welcome.

Does the live built work? Or do both result in an error, developer app and live built?

I haven't tried the live build, got stuck at the dev one. Sadly - still stuck. I followed your guide word-by-word and still end up with the same error. But its worth to note that I have no such problems when building with PhoneGap (quite frankly, I had like 5 builds done just today with PhoneGap).

I am not sure why, but I don't find Cocoon too user-friendly. I use Cordova CLI for my apps still. I tried cocoon again recently to find out they nerfed the free accounts to the point my account was unusable (I had several projects, going over the limit). This was not a nice experience for me. It is also not too clear what some of the UI components mean when compiling your app.

Hopefully it gets improved on, but for now, I will stick with Cordova. It only takes 3-4 minutes to compile your own app and sign it.

Cordova CLI? What's that? Sorry, it's been years since I've made a mobile game with C2.

PhoneGap is the easiest I've found so far and the one I am using currently. The problem with PhoneGap is its huge default size and rather shitty performence on older devices. Hence I'm looking for something better.

  • Hi Niespor

my guide is up to date.

    https://shatter-box.com/knowledgebase/cocoonio/

About your problem. Have you any illegal chars in your file name or object names in construct 2?

    Regards

    Andy

of course not. I'll check that tut right away. Thank you =)

  • Okay guys, quick and simple: I am trying to wrap my game via Cocoon but all the tuts are outdated or/and contradictory and whatever I do or try I keep getting a "Andoird devapp compilation failed" error and this is as far as it goes. Do anybody has a valid UP TO DATE tuts on the matter?

    >

Yes, it will. It works like this: each player can submit its score (with an AJAX call) to a server. All the AJAX POSTs go to the same server and are stored in the same database, no matter if it was posted from a mobile device or from a PC. When you display the leaderboard, you get the metadata from your server with an AJAX GET Request, and the same data is sended to all devices (no matter if desktop or mobile).

Are you familiar with servers and databases (PHP, SQL, etc.)? If not, don't worry. I didn't even know what a server was when I did this. If you need help, just ask.

Hmm... Try to contact them, they usually answer within 24h.

Well, networking and client-server was never my specialty. To tell you the truth last time I tried something like that it was about 4 years ago. Put if you say that the tutorial is still valid and working - I'll try it out =)

Do you use facebook by any chance? And if yes - would it be rude if I'd send a friend request your way?

    > Thx mate! Do you have a facebook fanpage or something else I could follow? Would probably be easier for you, rather than contacting each and every one of us ^_^

    >

No problem, was actually on the fence about porting it to Android and you tipped me over the edge! I'm afraid I only really operate out of Twitter at ParkercellUK - I just find Twitter the simplest way for gamedevs to promote their games!

Ouchy. I rarely use twitter. But I'll bookmark your profile =)

Ever thought about using IndieDB? Its a nice heaven for any IndieDev. In terms of self-branding.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

hard work deserves compensation, I'm sure no one would like to go to work and not get paid

You missed the point. But you are not the only one.

    > > Yes, they all work even on mobiles without WebGL. Just make sure 'Enable WebGL' is always 'On' in your Project Properites.

    > >

    > Sadly - this isn't true. It all depends on device's hardware and OS version. As a rule of thumb - you want to avoid Effects if you plan on publishing your game on mobiles.

    >

If that is true, then how come all effects in my game work on mobile devices?

It means you either did not used WebGL shaders, use it on a modern device or you confuse Shaders with Blending. I have 4 different android devices with android, ver. ranging from 2.X.X to newest 5.X.X and there is not a single Shader/Effect that would work across all of them. On oldest androids even blending doesn't work and you have to use sprite's alpha channel and opacity instead

  • Well, I had the same problem some time ago. I downloaded almost every (free) Plugin available, but either they didn't work anymore (like many C2 Plugins, sadly even official ones) or they only worked in a specific platform. I came up with a free solution, which is to code the leaderboard yourself (don't worry if you don't know how to code, I don't know either and it works perfectly). You will need a server (I use a free server from freewebhostingarea.com). Follow this tutorial (it's old, but it still works):

    https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/4839/c ... sql/page-1

Let me know if you have any questions

    Oh my! Thank you mosty kindly! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

And it will work across all platforms?
