  By default just about all objects can be on the receiving end of a collision using its bounding box, but that requires using sprite as the initiator, and will only work on the emitter if used on particles.

  The particles themselves have nothing to collide with, all bark, no bite.

  I could see where it would be useful for something that's rarely seen like a powerup, or a badge, notifications, etc.

  For example you might have a little in-game tutorial that the player can go back and look at.

  Then again those images would probably take up little memory, or placed in another layout.

  I've noticed quite a few flash games use a loading animation like the circular gradient. It can be annoying, but at least you get an idea of whats going on.

  Perhaps if there was an option to say what assets get loaded when needed?

  Well I'm no expert on mobile, and can't say if it will work minimized, but with the app running full time, a bare bones example could be made in say

  15 minutes.

  Also just realized a server can only do things that are time based, and can't monitor some other location, so that idea is pretty much out.

  A server would be needed if you want it to work if the app is off.
