  • Patriick: Thanks for the comments!

sved: As for the ones who land on food, one way is to put tiles on either side of the food and they will walk off. You are right, one way is to let all the Globs fall to the floor, but that's going to be quite a lot of work. I have been creating caverns on multi-levels and that seems to work very well for me.

cklester: I just added a Warp Effect to the tilebackground. The Tile Background was taken off this great seamless art resource - DinPattern

I am intending to tweak the game a bit to make it slightly harder. Like, let the Globs die off faster or something as they evolve.

There is also a possibility of doing Nurture II - adding even more new features and mechanics.

What would you like to see added?

  • The Globs are alive!

GamesWarp Studio is proud to announce the release of Nurture, a minimalistic colony simulation game.

    <img src="http://gameswarp.com/studio/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/cropped.jpg" border="0">

The game places you in the role of God as you take to looking after Globs ? cute little round blue beings whose role in life is only to blink (and to reproduce, of course).

You cannot directly manipulate Globs, but you can shift the green-colored earth that they walk upon. The objective in the game is to use your mouse and drag the green tiles from under your Globs so that they can meet somewhere in their small confined game world of Globbledygook.

That's right - to increase your population of Globs, all you have to do is to bring them together. After a while, a Glob becomes pregnant, and after a violent explosion that kills the Glob, new happy Globlings are born somewhere into the world.

Clicking on any of the Globs will show you their current Hit points, Energy level, and thoughts. Try not to deplete their HP/Energy levels or Globs will shrivel up and die.

You might also want to drag a green tile on another to get food (represented by yellow GW coins). However, you must be wary as ?food? cannot be moved around in the level. If you form a clear path to ?food?, Globs will start getting healthy and stronger again. ?Food? exposed to Globs will eventually be consumed.

There is a plus button in the game if you wish to see a close-up of the action. Use the WSAD keys while you are in this mode. Scroll to the upper right and click on the minus button to return to the normal view.

You win the game if you manage to get a total population of at least 200 Globs!

PS - Here's a special hint for the Scirra forums:

You can use the "=" key to enter debug mode.

  • We have added a new game to our list of demos - Nurture: A colony simulation game. Please read up the first article in this thread for the links to our website.

  • Well, I have prototyped an educational game for Linkit/Macmillian and also created an EBook Engine for demonstration purposes (with an ongoing project to proliferate it). But to teach kids to use Construct 2 to program games and apps is a different ball game altogether.

I am looking to create a series of tutorial videos for Construct 2 (as a subscription service), so you could say I hope to teach others... not necessarily adults, but kids as well. And if one thing is seriously missing from Construct 2, are proper tutorials - the kind with accompanying videos, presentation material, and exercises (targeted for kids) with sample solutions.

    Stay tuned for this...

  • Sent you a reply... please check your Inbox.

  • A demo of an EBook Engine is now available. Please refer to the top entry in this thread for further details. Thank you.

  • For those who are interested, there is now a tutorial out.

For what it's worth... it works swell for me. And as Kyatric says, it works... but you don't really need a URL per se.

Just upload all your sound files to the media folder. This folder must reside as a subfolder in your project. So even if you have not imported any sound or music into your project, you can always create it on your server. As to the sound files you put inside - it's best you convert them to both ogg and m4a format.

As for coding, just use the "Play (by name)" action and key in the filename without extension.

    Voil?!

  • So far good progress on prototyping the first project. Thanks.

Semiformal Studios, a small indie startup from Fresno, California had been given the once in a lifetime opportunity to present their game Ensemble Online at E3 this year. Their windfall included a great number of E3 industry passes and being incredibly generous guys, they are giving away these passes to other indies so that they too can spread word about their games at E3.

As such, they have set up a website known as Indies Crash E3 where you can vote for deserving Indie teams to attend E3. As mentioned on their website, these guys are "not looking to give some 50-man team another leg up". They instead would love "to help the garage-dwelling, midnight-coding, bootstrapping indies: the little guys", and their motto - "The Indier, the Better".

With that thought in mind, we would like to inform you that Indies Crash E3 has given GamesWarp Studio an advanced invitation to be nominated for two of our Construct 2 projects:

    <font size="6">Belter 2198</font>

Our sandbox strategy simulation game takes you to the year 2198 and the frontier of the future - the Asteroid Belt. Prepare to mine resources in this sci-fi game by carving out caverns in an asteroid with the help of your spaceship. Place structures from 6 building categories. Watch astronauts flit around your base. Defend against nefarious pirates and mysterious aliens as you uncover the secrets of the Asteroid Belt.

With only two members in the team, this game is as indie as indie gets.

    Vote for Belter 2198 here.

    <font size="6">Project Neumann</font>

This project is a joint development with Neuro-Games.com to produce a series of games (there are 4 now) with a serious application: The purpose of Project Neumann is to shift current Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) practice treatment paradigms by simultaneously training specific cognitive domains and meta-cognitive abilities (boosting far-transfer cognitive learning, and treatment autonomy) that are not fully addressed by drug therapies while also being fun, immersive, and engaging. We will accomplish this goal by targeting three specific cognitive skills: attention, planning, and inhibitory control.

There are currently 3 members working on Project Neumann, one from GamesWarp Studio, and two from Neuro-Games (both of whom are studying in the field of neuro psychology).

Help us by voting for Project Neumann here!

  • Updated with 3 demos... please see first message.

  • Ok... I am going to delete the files.

  • Link to .capx file (required!):

    gameswarp.com/pc/dev/scirra/prscirra.capx

PS - No third party plugins and behaviors were in use.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. After the screen scrolls 1 x Width, you need to use your character and jump to collect a cluster of 2 coins (bunched close together). Keep trying and the error is bound to occur. I suggest the up arrow key while you are directly under two coins. I attach a screenshot illustrating the problem:

    <img src="http://www.gameswarp.com/pc/dev/scirra/prbug.png" border="0" />

    2. The problem appears to go away after I comment out the function calls to the audio.

    Observed result:

    It says:

    Javascript error!

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'uid' of undefined (b is undefined)

    localhost/Sprite_plugin.js, line 947 (col undefined)

    Expected result:

    It should not be crashing.

    Browsers affected:

    Chrome: yes

    Firefox: yes

    Internet Explorer: yes

    Operating system & service pack:

    Windows 7 64 bit

    Construct 2 version:

    r125

  • I could prototype in Construct 2, C# (XNA), C++, C, T2D, VB, DBPro or possibly something else. It would of course be much faster to prototype using Construct 2, DBPro, VB or some other simple scripting language.

There may be people who prefer prototyping their game or app with C2 because they either have not bought a copy for themselves and are looking in this forum to understand the ROI of prototyping with this cool game engine, have a great game idea but have no inclination for coding, would just like to see a good example of how a game is coded with C2, are a group basically looking to outsource, or a variation (or even combination) of these scenarios.

I am not even going to go about discussing about Unity, UDK, T3D, or CryEngine development here... even though I have looked into those scripting languages before, and have a grasp of what is needed for them.

    Cheers,

    Gavin GamesWarp
