  • What happens when your commercial license ran out and you still earn >20k with the games your created?

  • Hey Lucid, yeah I know that scripting isn't necessary in Construct. When I started this topic I was comparing different game engines for my study. I've now chosen to work with Construct and have created some game mechanics already. So I know what I can do without scripting.

I've read a tutorial on how to create multiplayer games in construct with python though. And since I love multiplayer, I wanted to do some tests to see what the possibilities are and if I can use it or not. But because of the error, I can't really do any scripting.

  • Thanks a lot scidave. I've been reading a lot about python and actually want to give it a go. But I have one more problem:

I don't know what to do with the python26.dll file. I've read that I have to copy it somewhere in this thread:

Bit I don't know where I have to copy it to..

  • Wow this looks pretty good! I played a few levels on my macbook with a virtual Windows XP.

I noticed that the first level didn't run quite as smooth though. The 2nd and 3rd level are better.

I also noticed that I can shoot trough breakable walls (the ones you have to shoot to destroy)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • You're right. I didn't even think of that.

This would mean that you pay 100 dollars a year and earn at least 35.490 dollars. (the revenue in the first post is measured in pounds) Don't you think that the pricing is a bit off? Construct is a pretty essential tool to create the game, else the developer(s) would've chosen to code it themselves or to use a different engine..

  • You can also try to make a HTML 5 website with Construct 2

  • I'd use pounds instead of dollars as well.. Dollars are worth *** and are pretty damn unstable..

edit: And stop complaining about the commercial license. It's a pretty good deal! You only need it when you earn over 20.000 pounds with your games. That's a whooping 32.490 US Dollars at the moment. 1.000 dollars in costs is only about 3% of your earned 32.490 dollars.

And it's pretty fair since you use their software to create your game in the first place..

edit2: The above calculation is wrong. I forgot that the 1.000 dollar license lasts for 10 years. So your profit would be 200.000 USD or more.

  • Love the graphics man!

  • I think a html5 exporter isn't that bad for beta releases like these..

  • I know this topic is old and dead, but I'm interested in using Python and don't get any pop-ups with information on what to do with the python26.dll

I've installed python, but where do I need to copy the .dll to?

    Thanks

  • I've got one more bit creazy idea... even few. Maybe you could have an add slot whch would be displaying advertisments every 30 minutes in a free verision like free spotify that playes adds every few songs?( I acctualy wonder have anyone cracked free spotify to disable this). Another idea would be just to have adds displayed on program start so user will have to click it in order to start. C2 would have to connect with your servers too to check weather code been modified by cracks or hacks or not. And if it would then it would be automaticaly updateing to original version. And would be good to to have some benefits over hacked versions like some sort of online acces to resources for registered users etc.

That's a great idea. Put some ads in the free version to cover the expenses!

  • You could also make money from additional components. I don't know where I've seen this, but there was a tool that charged money for a Box2D physics add-on.

  • Is a 2 year subscription model going to be enough for you to go full time on C2?

Wouldn't it be better to put a price on major updates?

40 pounds for a pro version and 10 pounds for major updates for example..?

  • How fast do you need the money?

You could follow Minecraft's example and charge a small amount of money for the alpha version. When it goes in beta, you'll have to pay more. And even more when it comes out of beta.

I'm not sure how many developers are interested in C2 at the moment. (Minecraft is a game and got very popular, very quickly). This might not be the case with C2..) If there are thousands of people already interested in C2, this method might get you started..

p.s. I would also pay up to 80 dollars for a pro version. I even wouldn't mind a % of the profit to go to Scirra either..

  • So what if someone else makes a free HTML5 exporter? Everyone will just use that one.. Or are you planning to close the whole exporter deal? Because that would be a bummer (i liked the idea of new exporters that can be built).

I think that the best thing you can do, is to make C2 free and take a % of the profit that they earn with the games. (If the game is commercially released).
