  • Bump - I'm sure many developers who are serious about developing multiplayer games in C2 want to know this.

  • Hello everyone. I'm interested in alternatives to Construct 2's built-in multiplayer system. As many of you know, the current system has its downfalls:

    It has limited support. WebRTC is, at the moment, only supported by some browsers and mobile systems. This doesn't make it completely unusable, but still, if it supported more platforms, it would be a lot better.

    It is unreliable. In the process of developing my multiplayer games in Construct 2, I have seen numerous instances of people who could not connect to a game, or who were kicked out of a game the minute it started. These people could run many other multiplayer games just fine. This is clearly a big problem.

    Its functionality is limited. As good as the plugin is for basic multiplayer functions, it is not great in terms of features. For example, its peer-to-peer system makes public games hard to host. Also, (as far as I know) no information about an open room is available to players unless they are in the room. Thus, the system requires workarounds to be effective.

    I have looked at Photon as an alternative system, but their prices are way over-the-top for an average indie developer with no funding. I also know multiplayer systems using Firebase exist, but nothing about them or how to create one.

    If you happen to know a good alternative, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.

  • Again, it kind of works, but it's important for me to keep the dimensions of the game, as it is pixel art. Plus, I don't think the offset was supposed to happen in any case.

  • Problem Description

    I'm using Browser to request fullscreen (letterbox scale). My initial "Fullscreen in browser" setting is set to "off". When I switch back to windowed mode (cancel fullscreen), the project is moved so that only part of it is on the screen, the rest being black space. If I set "Fullscreen in browser" to letterbox scale, though, my game looks blurry when I run it, because for some reason the window size isn't 800x600 as I set it to.

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Run the project and press space bar, switching it to fullscreen.
    • Press space bar again, switching to windowed. The project will look differently from when you first ran it.

    Observed Result

    The layout is at an offset and zoomed in, as the sprite confirms.

    Expected Result

    The layout should go back to the way it was at first.

    Affected Browsers

    Only NW.js. On IE the project wouldn't switch to fullscreen at all, but I am sure it is unrelated.

  • I really need to fix this problem, since my game should look well in windowed mode and be able to switch to fullscreen. Does anyone have an idea of what's going on?

    It seems like I found a bug in the Authentication plugin. I choose "on deleting user error", it gives me "on sending password result email error".

    Seriously though, you would have to market really, really hard for such amount of downloads. Settle on smaller goals first, tell people about your game (but not in a spammy way), contact YouTubers, and first of all, make your game great!

  • Same thing. My game was halfway to top 100, and then it got Greenlit out of the blue. Well, not really - I have added my game to a bundle a few days before that, and published a demo version. So I think Valve looks at the game's activity and how much the developers actually care. Plus, they might have liked the game generally.

    The problem I see is too many games getting into Steam nowadays so it's becoming more like Kongregate - people don't have any guarantee their games will do well or even be noticed. I guess that Greenlight was once proof of a game's good quality, but now devs have to assure their games are good.

  • Update: I think I just got why the screen was blurred using letterbox scale. The NW.js window is bigger than 800x600, which is the game's size. I don't understand why though.

    Can we expect an update to this plugin compatible with SDK 1.38 soon?

  • I'm using Browser object in my game to switch between fullscreen and windowed mode. If I set the mode in "request fullscreen" to stretch (letterbox scale), I can enter fullscreen without any problems. But when I switch back to windowed mode, my game's position is off, and part of it isn't on the screen. The only solution I've been able to find is set the mode to Centered, and set "fullscreen in browser" to letterbox scale. But if I do that, my 800x600 game looks blurred. This is very important in my case, since I use pixel art graphics. Do you know any solution to this problem? If not, I am probably going to report the blurring bug and hope to get it fixed.
