  • So I was just about to open a bug then I stumbled onto my issue. I just purchased C2 and was cleaning up my free project, adding layers, properly assigning objects to layers etc.. As I clicked through each object I noticed that some of the objects did list in the Layers DD, any of the layers I created.

After digging I found that layers are per Layout, is there a way to make layers Global? basically I am probably going slightly overboard and creating too many layers, but I am very organized in my coding, anyhow. I have like 10 Named Layers, but when I go to a different layout none of those are there and my naming convention is pretty generic, but really don't want to re-type it all again on each and every Layout.

I see value in the a set of layers per Layout, but then it sort of flies in the face of all of the objects just being in a folder, I understand I can create subs just odd. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

  • Well Hello! I been using the C2 free version for about a month and wow it is excellent. I wanted to wait to purchase until I could prove to myself that with this tool I can create a game from Zero to App Store and I have WOOT. Thank you. This is an excellent tool very excited and looking forward to building more.

My name is Brett, have been a web programmer for 20 years, really have been itching to get into games the last few years but each time I try its so time consuming and involved. You of course get to build the game but you also have to build the engine and boy it is exhausting and really makes you want to give up!

Enter Construct 2, blazingly fast to prototype and put a game together man I wish I found it sooner.

    Thank you!

  • Wow, I feel stupid, totally should have tried that first. Thank you. Thanks newt that is something to think on for the future, right now I just need basic, but that is good to know.

  • So I have a Hero with 8 Way Movement Behavior, but I am not using the Keyboard. I created Sprites for each direction, but it doesn't appear that in the Conditions and Actions you can select Diagonals, only Up,Right,Down,Left. Any idea how to code it so you can move diagonal?

    Thanks

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Right, but not exactly what I was looking for. Example: Let say you have a Person with all individual parts, Body, Arms, Legs, Head. It would be great to position them and then just click and drag a Arm if you want to move him. But hey there is always work arounds, guess I could create a layer and only put him on it then just Select All.

    Thanks

  • Does C2 have what you could call Collections? What I am looking for is a way to "Group" objects in the Editor, then just click on one and move the "Collection"! I understand I can just Ctrl+Click and select X objects, but it would sure be nice if you could just click one and drag all of them around.

    Thanks

  • mineet, it took a few for mine to show. Either wait a few or hit refresh, it will popup eventually.

  • Tekniko, the videos linked to by Auntie Val are done by ConstructDude he has a ton of videos which are all excellent. He does go fast, but you can pause and take your time, in the end copy paste his code then spend some time looking it over in your build, get a grip of what it does and why, that is the best way to learn.

  • newt, I disagree, I don't think C2 needs to move to an online editor, it would be a nice bonus but not as the primary tool. Look at all the tools out there for web developers and programmers, most are standalone run from your computer. Honestly I think its better, then you are not relying on an internet connection, don't have to worry if your connection drops will you lose work etc.. You can work offline, more stable blah blah. The advantages of working in an online world is you can work from anywhere, but on the converse just save your work to the web and pull it to where you need it and honestly as much as we think we will work while we are out or on travel we don't :)

Oh and I tried to look into this tool it seems very much in the early stages. give it a year and lets see what it can do, but right now "looks" nice, but its sitting on wordpress and their communications are poor, not interested!

  • I do agree it is pretty much a rip-off but as Ashley said "its ok and expected". At least the guy did "make it his own" added some pickups, Right-Click and Middle-Click, sounds and other effects. At least hes not trying to make money off it that would be totally lame.

  • Hello Twitckun, the videos that Arima reccomended are very good. ConstructDude in particular is excellent on showing all aspects of the tool and how to build things. I also found the Breakout Tutorial very well done, it was by Lee Stemkoski, I suggest you watch all of their videos, very practical good quality for the beginner and advanced users alike.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for validating what I dug up on the net, wanted to be sure. Thanks again for offering the class.

  • Too funny, lol. I think it will be 11am my time, if it is 16:00/4pm their time. Guess I might be late first class :)

  • mineet, looks like you just have to click the TINY +add to the left of the Class title, took me a minute to see it too. This looks awesome, thank you both for hosting.

  • Wrangler I just downloaded the latest, but turning on the Grid doesn't help, can you explain what your are thinking? I was expecting that if I turned on the Grid and based on what you were saying that it might show when I did preview, but no.

    Thanks
