  • The other thing to note is that you don't need to make APKs to play the games on your devices, you can use the Chrome browser on Android to add the games as shortcuts to the home screen to "look like apps", while really still running in a web browser. Then for hosting them for free there's the Scirra Arcade right on this site, or you can try sites like Bit Balloon as well if you want to host the game folders directly online.

From what I can tell, performance might actually be better running them this way anyway too.

    Hope that helps!

  • No problem! And yeah it's good to know no tool is perfect when a developer is feeling the itch to jump to something popular!

  • Our company twitter is but personal for me is

Our first title Insanity's Blade was pure Construct 2, our next one Battle Princess Madelyn was prototyped in Construct but moved to Unity engine for making the final console/desktop commercial version

  • Unity has issues for sure, but funny they blame it for an issue with their source versioning system. GitHub works great usually but if someone screws up their Git merge/commit it can cause all kinds of issues. I wouldn't blame the game engine for that

The co-ordinate system sounds like their scale is wrong if they need to use that much space in a single scene. Content should by dynamically loaded/de-loaded for larger distances.

Also, the reason they don't have source code is because they aren't a big company, there are options to buy access to it.

Ultimately, the fact that *everyone* on their team needs Unity Engine access means they haven't created their own game content tools, another big flaw of any game with larger teams.

  • Great, good to know thanks Tom!

  • Ah darn, thanks for letting me know! Do people buying C2 right now still get a discount on their first year of C3 though?

Guess it doesn't matter, price went up today haha. Strangely, Construct 2 is still the one advertised by default on the /Store page though.

  • If I remember right buying Construct 2 now also means a discount (or free?) year when you upgrade to C3 I think, so best of both worlds!

  • The question to ask is: Will Nintendo Switch support HTML5?

And the answer is: Nobody but Nintendo knows, and they aren't sharing

  • The reasons we made the switch are scattered throughout other posts and threads, someone can look at my posts if they want to see why.

However, the biggest reason is console export, which is a feature that will take a while to come to Construct anyway because they don't fully support HTML5.

If we could keep working in Construct and have the same quality, and export options, we would, but sadly we outgrew it.

That doesn't mean I don't recommend Construct for web game developers, hobbyists, freeware developers, and educators.

If the C3 performance upgrade is as good as it looks in the new runtime, C3 will actually be great for the average desktop commercial games too, possibly even mobile.

  • We have with Battle Princess Madelyn. It was a total re-write, the art and tile maps could be ported over though:

    Construct 2 prototype:

    Unity 3D version preview:

    Teaser trailer:

We have a free Pre-Alpha demo on Steam, will be releasing on Switch, PS4, Xbox, Wii U, PC, and PS Vita.

  • Construct 2 and 3 currently have the same runtime/performance for now, and very similar interfaces.

Construct 3 is slightly easier to make native apps for mobile, and the editor works in the browser even on phones and tablets.

Construct 2 means not paying yearly if you want to practice or make games for free. When you are ready to develop conmercially you can always upgrade to C3 and still keep your lifetime C2 license.

Plus, Construct 2 is $70 USD cheaper right now, price goes up March 12th.

Edit: Also C3 for beginners? C2 has the most resources, videos, examples, tutorials, and plugins right now so I have to disagree there.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Save $70 USD buying it before March 12th!

  • Probably not MPPlantOfficial , at least nothing beyond what they were already planning to anyway/what can be ported to C3 "Our focus is to encourage new customers to buy Construct 3 and not Construct 2."

  • If you choose to buy C2, better hurry! There's a price increase coming on March 12th: https://www.scirra.com/blog/222/constru ... 12th-march
