  The easiest way to interact with a database is in PHP.

  There are tons of tutorials on Google on how to do this also.

  http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_mysql_connect.asp is one example.

  From there, you simply access your PHP app via AJAX (HTTP GET) and then have that API pass information back to your database.

  Ashley , i have a suggestion for C3 if i'm not yet too late. I just played around with GMS 2 and i've found out that the program is bloated...

  I can understand that Unity is heavy for a reason but GMS 2 is far heavier (sluggish) than it for useless reasons like it's start page and transitions.

  On GMS i can still do stuffs fast (still not as fast as C2) but in GMS2 it's a bit unresponsive. It's not my computer specs since i can do stuffs in Unity3D quite fast but GMS 2's use of their network inside the application causes unnecessary processes.

  I hope you develop C3 as lightweight as you possibly can.

  If C2 is any indicator, I doubt that you have to worry about this.

  If my understanding is correct, cache-control header works for proxies and end-user caches, but if not, you can always have versioned URLs:

  You can use REST to do this too. Something like:

  This does not go into your C2 plugin folder. You have to import it directly into your application using the Cordova command line interface.

  The local storage is only active so long as the app is running. If you close the app the local storage is cleared.

  You have to have a server database to save data between sessions, or just keep your app open constantly.

  One side question, what if they simply change the system time?

  From the API page, it looks like it is a JSON object whose "total_count" field is the one you are interested in.

  You should be able to use Yann 's JSON plugin or rexrainbow 's Hash plugin to parse the JSON and access the value you want.

  And learn 3D. You can always go back to 2D later, but 3D is the "way of the future," so to speak, especially with VR coming on to the scene.

  Granted, I am a "jack-of-all-trades" kind of guy, so take my advice with a grain of salt (or two).

  I think "make native engines" is everyone's knee-jerk reaction when something doesn't work. For example, sure, we could make changes to make publishing easier. But that can be done anyway. You don't need native code to solve that. I also have direct experience of working with a native engine for Construct Classic. That had enough problems to make me move away from it. It is certainly not perfect. Do not imagine it will magically fix everything!

  The grass is always greener on the native-engine side.

  Please don't waste time to native export or 3D. What we really need is "Third-party extensibility of the editor" and "Project modularity features".

  You can kind of do this already with the export as a project save mode... but greater modularity is always welcome.

  I am in full agreement on this one. Only minor detail, rex lives in the Philippines and they are in the U.K. Timezones are a nuisance.

  I imagine they have probably asked him in the past, and rex is probably not going to leave his extended family.
