  • Cheers mate, i dunno - i guess my spidey sense was tingling. :)

  • Im sure a lot of great games ive played have been indies but im just not aware of it. One (unbelievably good game) that i know was "Another World".

Apparently all made by one guy? - an inspiration for us all! ;)

  • Ah i see, fair enough. Best of luck with it all.

  • I agree. Visitors might be put off by the arcade if too many test projects are in there. The creation forum is for testing.

  • Nice to meet you all. My name is Tim.

Ive had a passion for video games as long as i can remember, starting with the Atari, commodore 64, nintendo, Amiga (ohh the Amiga... so many pirated games), consoles and the list goes on.

For the past few of years ive been a psychology student, but have decided to give it up for my real passion. So this year im going for broke and Construct is the vehicle thats gonna take me there! Lol :)

  • Hi Era,

Nice game, i like the way you build yourself up. It might be fun if when you got hit you lost a part as well. :)

I didnt really find the game to be difficult - once you get the hang of the gravity. (it works pretty fun by the way).

Your character is very jittery (it happens in my platformer as well). What kind of camera control are you using? So far i have gotten the best results using an invisible sprite that is attached to the character - even now though it could be a little smoother.

Cool art style, looking forward to seeing it with the added polish.

  • Very nice presentation. I would be impressed if you were to present it to me :)

I use IE9 primarily so this might not be an issue for your browser but some of the text is very jittery (like when you click on coffee and all its glorious forms and select a cup).

Im not sure if thats what you mean by frame issues - still i thought i should say something.

EDIT: Runs perfectly for me in chrome however.

  • Hey guys,

Ive been pretty active in the C2 creations - section of the forum. I just wanted to say a couple of things here because im worried about the double edge sword effect of giving too much feedback.

I really dont want to come off as the "guy who thinks he knows everything", because I surely dont!

I want to apologise to anyone whos feathers i might have ruffled. I am not an attention seeker, my true intention of giving so much feedback is in the hope it will be returned when i post my own creation.

    Thanks for reading.

  • This sounds interesting, in my current project im using mass amounts of tiled backgrounds (and still a little worried about performance to be honest).

Will using your plugin be much more efficient (cpu wise) than using sprites if you were to add animations? I hope that makes sense.

    If so - very cool.

  • Ah ok, maybe i misunderstood. I agree that its inefficient as it stands (Ashley is currently working on families right now). Its probably not as bad as you think though.

The first project i was working on was a td style of game. You can get away cloning your enemies if they have simple mechanics like target x and move in - attack when at x distance. Also - say i set that enemies life at 100 - All of my cloned enemies have 100 life (they dont share life). If you did want to share life you could make it a global variable - and deduct points from that each time one of your enemies is hit.

Look up the mod Kyatric and click on his sig (i wonder if his ears are burning again). I know i was pleasantly surprised the first time i did :)

  • If you have a look at each of the examples in the c2 examples folder in detail - as well as the tuts and faq. I think it would give you a good basis to achieve the things you want in most games.

Each sprite has any number of "image points" (the number is up to you). Double click on your sprite and add image points. Then add your detectors. Finally you need to add the code for what happens when the enemy touches a paticular image point.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hey gmxo,

To answer your question, in my opinion it starts too slow and progresses too quickly. At the very beginning its starts off a little boring honestly - but before you know it you have missles and puffa fish to avoid. (I would introduce the puffa fish much closer to the start - well before you see missles). Later however it does start to get cool, (lol was that a spaceship?!)

Other constructive things to think about - I had no idea how many hits i could take before death.

The bubbles (on the shark) should only move once you get some speed up. (Again just my opinion! See if others agree on this).

Could be interesting if you grew a little every fifth time you ate a fish.

  • Ah i see, Im a little embarrased for not reading the instructions but thats still valuable insight - i wonder how many read the instructions before playing. Anyway, fun game.

  • Yeah I understand that, just wanted to let you know that once your stuck as I was, you have no choice but to turn the game off. (obviously you can start the game up again - but it would be better to be able to restart the stage "in game".

If you are selling or have any music on the internet i would love the check it out.
