  • Sushin, I like that game, although it's flawed. If you could fix it so everything doesn't just instantly collapse when I enter the levels, it would be really fun. Right now it's just a bit too mad, as soon as I enter level 2 the whole building collapses, lol. But the idea is good and if you polish it up a bit I reckon it could be great. I've given you 5 stars anyway :)

  • I've decided to go ahead and buy it anyway, since I do need a phone upgrade, even though I never use mine. Still, perfect time to upgrade while I'm looking for something to develop on. Maybe I could develop without a contract at all? I'll see what happens when it turns up, but it does look like the perfect cheap phone for a developer.

I'm intrigued to get working on ideas for touch screens. I can't even think how a platform game is gonna work, but it'll be fun finding out.

  • I don't suppose you know if I can just buy one of these and then switch my sim from my old phone over to it? I barely use my phone but if I'm going to buy this for developing, I may as well use it as my phone too. I know so little about phones and it's so hard to find anything other than hype and advertising, I don't know how to switch my handset. Can I just buy a new one and carry on with my pay-and-go style? I have no idea where I ask for this kind of advice.

  • This is something I've struggled with before and I still don't know how to resolve it.

My game is published on Clay.io, here Korelos

It works fine there and is centred correctly on the screen. The screen resolution is 800 x 600 which is the maximum size for some sites such as Kongregate.

But when I link that frame to Kongregate, it works but there are scrollbars around the edge of the game and the whole game isn't showing (kind of makes it unplayable because you can't click the icons and so on).

Since the game is 800x600 and it's listed as 800x600 on the Kongregate upload, any ideas why this is happening and how I can get rid of the scrollbars?

  • Updated link to the version on Clay.io, which I'm going to be using to try to link with Chrome and other web stores, will try to see how it links with Kongregate too.

Had to shrink it down to 800 resolution which I was a bit worried about, but found ways to get it to work, seems to play fine. I was going to slow the lasers down to correspond with the new size but it still seems the same to me so left it as it is.

Renamed it to 'Korelos', which is the name of the final system. I don't really like the name but it's unique and gets me away from any issues with the name 'Frontier'.

  • Hmmm, old version not loading in either, so something's wrong. It could be something at my end, or maybe your Dropbox is playing up or something.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, this sorta thing can just get in the way when you should focus on your game. It won't affect it in the end so don't worry, although I'd like to help with feedback and stuff, but I'm sure you have plenty to be getting on with :)

  • Still not right on mine. I left it loaded and went downstairs for a while, came back and the screen was finally showing, but it was just the background, the characters at the top and the die in the centre. Nothing else, and when I clicked around, e.g clicked the mouse and the characters, nothing happened. It's either locked up or just taking forever to load in.

  • Looks like a winner, cheap and it's got plenty of good reviews on Amazon. It doesn't look like the best phone out there but that's the point really, and people are saying it's pretty good, even with games. Thanks :)

  • Luckily, it was W8 Pro that I ordered. It was 100 direct from Microsoft but only 50 on Amazon - no idea why but I read through and people were saying the same thing, but the Amazon version is the correct one.

That'll allow me to develop for W8 Store then. So now I need a cheap W8 phone or something for testing.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Thanks man, the more info the merrier, I'll get reading.

I've just finished a game for Windows, just trying to see if I can get it released now. But after looking around, I really think it's best to do simple games for as many platforms as possible. So I want to get started on this whole tablet/phone stuff and see where it leads me. For one thing, I need to start working with touch-screen instead of mouse, so my whole thinking about games needs to alter slightly. I'll look for the cheapest possible phone/tablet and try to think up game ideas that work on that. Then I can look into other platforms.

As you said in an earlier post, Windows 8 looks most promising right now since it's under-saturated. I'm going to install W8 on this PC, then maybe get some touch-screen device to develop simpler W8 games for tablets or whatever. So I guess right the best bet might be some cheap W8 tablet or... something, lol xD

  • Could be that, my game probably has more sfx but I didn't preload any. I've noticed the music sometimes doesn't start on my game unless it's in the cache. But at least the game loads I suppose :p

Let me know when you've uploaded another and I'll try again.

  • Strange, same thing happening in Firefox :(

  • Doesn't load in for me for some reason. Tried earlier and now a few hours later. It loads to 100% and then just does nothing :(

  • This may sound like a dumb question but I really am clueless about these devices. Do I need a Wifi connection to use them with Construct 2, or is there another way to test my games on them? I don't have Wifi, I'm on cable. How do you develop for these platforms? Is it a case of developing on your PC, uploading them to a site then connecting with the phone/tablet to the site?

  • Have to say it's all very confusing, there are so many choices. I'm a pure desktop/web user and never messed around with any mobiles or tablets. Would be fun to make a game with a touch-screen but I don't want to be spending a fortune. Which of these use Windows 8? The W8 store looks quite promising right now since it's not so saturated.
