Exomarc's Forum Posts

  • Hey, I'm working on making a little way to load tiles from the image manipulator, where it takes tiles from PNGs/JPEGs and makes them into tiles so that any size of an image could create however many tiles it needs in the program, very similar to RPG maker.

I have everything working, there's just one small problem, I can't seem to get any sprites to have transparent backgrounds that I do this to. Does anyone know of a workaround for this or am I just doing something wrong? I've loaded from PNGs exclusively so it's not a problem of the format, but I suspect that image manipulator doesn't really support pasting images in that have transparent backgrounds.

If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it! Thanks

  • Exomarc: nice find but I'm paying in GBP which makes the exchange rate not so favourable... and maybe international shipping too. I don't think any mobile nVidia cards support PhysX yet either (or CUDA).

I looked it up to be sure, and I guess CUDA and PhysX are both enabled on the 9600m. Not that that has anything to do with the topic anymore just something I found.

I just found this one recently, and I was pretty surprised to see an acer which had a dedicated GPU. It uses the GeForce 9600m, which is a pretty good graphics card for a notebook. I have an acer laptop, and as cheap as they are I like mine for small things and it works pretty good. My one problem with the acer series is that their keyboards are annoying.. But luckily this model of laptop seems to have a keyboard similiar to regular microsoft keyboard designs. It comes with a sweet virtual surround sound system(which I've never tried, but it sounds sweet). It comes with 4gb ram installed, which is a great deal, and the 250gb hard drive isn't bad either.. I would love to get this one but it comes in at $750 usd for me, which is a little over the Euros for you. Anyway, yeah it's a little over 500 but it's pretty close to your price range. I would definitely buy it if I had the extra cash.

I definitely would go with NVIDIA over ATI anyday for any graphics card, especially if you are ever planning on playing any sort of game that uses the PhysX engine.

  • I'm pretty sure it's just the default one built into windows.

  • I am so happy to see the announcement for Femstruct! My sister has been asking me about using construct, and I always told her it was impossible, since the interface has way too much testosterone.. But now, now we have Femstruct! What a great way to add some diversity to game development! Thank you Scirra! Femstruct will be AWESOME!!!

  • Yeah, it's definitely not ideal.. Just because that will mean for every object I'd have to have a hash table to go along with it, or more creatively I could separate with delimiters even further, but that requires quite a bit of work.. So better private variable management would definitely come in handy

  • Oh, nice, that works perfectly. Thank you, I appreciate the help

  • I have a question for everyone, which I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but I'm not 100% sure.

Do you guys know if it's possible to dynamically create private variables on a sprite and check them? I am working on an advanced array loader and I am working with giving variables to sprites.

Does anyone know if this has been implemented? Thank you!

  • Wow, great/significant changes as always!

  • Yeah, as much as this guy may be annoying you guys, it is a valid bug that seems to affect me as well.

My sprite drawing is very buggy, with not being able to even draw things without white around them, and then nothing I draw will appear. I don't really know how else to describe the bugs, except to possibly post a video if I could capture my screen. It happens on creation of a new sprite when you draw the animation.

  • I can't hear the sound either

  • Haha, the "STUFF!" part of the video made me laugh. Seriously, who is in charge of their marketing team? This is just horrendous. What kind of a name is "Sims Carnival"? That is a ridiculous name- how can you take that seriously? Anyways, good find, I had a good laugh from that "STUFF!" part.

  • What? I don't think you can.. I'm not getting the option whenever I add a new post on this section. Maybe it is showing up for you because you are an admin?

  • Sorry, I doubt that is legal in the games that you play, but either way, Construct won't work for this. You will have to look elsewhere at this point, sorry.

  • I understand what you mean. You would like to create macros in order to get keypresses and then simulate keypresses. But unfortunately, this is not possible currently in Construct. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to create a plugin for this in the future.
