    Does the janks appear here too (VSNYC on the right isn't always gray)?

    I'm running a rig with a GTX 1080Ti, i7-8700K and 32GB of RAM, which far, far exceeds the requirements of the standard user, and Chrome will still fall flat on that test after about 30 seconds.

    Chrome is fundamentally broken with regards to vsync, maybe one day it will be fixed, but Chromium have known about this problem for 4 years, so I'm not exactly confident it will be fixed.

  • Am I missing something here? Why would an installed app have a loader layout? Surely an animated splash screen is just the first layout of the game that transitions to the main menu layout after a set amount of time?

  • Quite an easy fix:

    + System: Every 3 seconds

    -> Sprite: Set animation frame to Self.AnimationFrame+choose(-3,-2,-1,1,2,3)

    You can change the range to be as big as you need, don't use random as that will include 0, though in fairness, you could use a sub event in that case.

    You'll also want to clamp the above, otherwise you could end up with minus number frames

  • I'd be interested in seeing a performance comparison between the C3 runtime and Chrowdren when possible

  • If you increase the impulse strength (by decreasing your division) you'll get a more dramatic reaction

  • I'm not sure if I completely understand the problem, however it's might be worth noting that arrays are zero based, so if if you want the first item of an array you would request 0; if you want the 7th item of the array, you would request 6 and so on

  • Is there a reason you're not using iframes/xframes?

  • It's been a long time dream of mine that Construct will expand beyond the canvas and allow us to have unrestricted access to the DOM, transitioning into more of a HTML5 experience engine than a game engine. These features would dramatically transform Constructs viability as an app engine - tables, lists, styling... it would be amazing.

    With the C3 runtime nearing completion, we'll have to wait and see how much of this can become a reality.

  • The only major downside of C3 at the moment is the lack of 3rd party plugins, some of which will have effectively been made 3 times (once for C2, once for the C3 IDE using the C2 runtime, and once for the C3 runtime).

    However, as we get ever closer to the C3 runtime being feature complete, we start to enter a phase of development that I am massively excited for - Scirra will have the largest dev team it's ever had, working almost exclusively on new features; so new behaviours, more official plugins, and even better functionality.

    The other replies in this thread have made excellent points regarding the benefits of C3, but the main one for me is that it's the future.

    Though I still don't know why there's advertising on the forum — certainly in the middle of the posts.

    For example, there's already a "Pricing" and "Try Now" option at the top, both promoting purchase. One of those could be highlighted.

    How much advertising does this forum need?

    Forum threads provide an excellent opportunity for organic content for search engines - if someone is trying to make a mobile game and searches Google for "How do I make a game like Angry Birds" (just an example) there's a chance a Construct forum thread could pop up. For new users stumbling onto the site like this, providing a short but sweet CTA is perfect rather than relying on them to navigate the site.

    Given the fact that Scirra's only revenue stream is the licencing model, it's perfectly reasonable for them to use every opportunity they get to communicate the value of the Construct platform to new users - especially when it comes to quality of life features like forums (which are clearly having a lot of work put in to them; embedded video, built in tab menus, tables) that cost more than you'd think to host, improve and maintain.

    Rather than passing this cost onto existing users by increasing the cost of subscription, do you not feel that's best for Scirra to put more effort into expanding their userbase?

    I feel like it should also be noted that the "Buy Now" page also features the free version of C3.

  • What if these media spots were used to communicate new update features with a primary Buy Now CTA and a secondary Find Out More CTA, with the former linking to the store and the latter linking to a blog article or manual entry.

    The Buy Now CTAs could then be hidden for C3 subscribers. This way Scirra gets to inform users about new features of the engine, which acts as a natural selling hook for them, whereas users both paying and non-paying get informative content that educates them about C3.

    I definitely understand the pushback against commercialisation, but there's certainly a middle ground that can be achieved.

  • The ads are quite an interesting placement - for paying C3 users you could display blog posts and manual entries in their place, with maybe the option to turn this off. Something like a "Pro Tip" prompt to encourage content interconnection
