  • Many thanks for the cool demo, rexrainbow :) I find that I can learn much faster if I can look under the hood, see the all of the parts of the engine put together, then experiment with what's already been created.

  • Thank you, wizaerd :) Your tip is much appreciated and I'm very happy it's working for you! I think I'll give it a try.

  • This just answered a question I was about to post. Many thanks to wizaerd for asking and the rest of you for answering. Being that I'm a newbie, I've opted to stick with stable versions for now but, like you wizaerd, I am also curious about the betas ;)

    *edited to correct a typo

  • You will have to provide a few more details in order to get the help you need.

Are you asking simply how to make buttons? Or are you asking how to add the functionality to buttons? (ie., go to next layout/Previous layout?)

  • Thank you. Keep up the good work :)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Good point, wizaerd. I totally agree too.

  • I like your idea :) I've had a few crashes, myself, and lost anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes of work. Of course, I'm now *trying to* save more frequently as a result, but it certainly is easy to get caught-up in what you're doing and forget.

My husband no longer asks why when he hears a loud "Arghhhh!" It's a given that I've just lost a bunch of work ... again!

    Auto-saves rock :)

  • I just read about these potential problems as well and am quite concerned as I'd like to keep my games web-based for the time-being, while still targeting iOS users as a portion of my visitor base.

I'd really like to learn more, especially from those of you who understand the implications much better than I, about how to circumvent the issues if possible. Quite frankly, this whole situation is making me pretty nervous.

Many thanks to you all for sharing your knowledge.

  • Nice resource. Bookmarked. Thank you Naaty Design :)

  • Thanks so much for the links :)

  • Based on my demographic, I'm an atypical game developer.

    Why?

There are not a lot of females of my vintage either involved in or interested in game dev. Women, sadly, are still the minority in this pursuit (but we are gaining ground... yay!) and, as far as age goes, you can estimate my years based on the following clues: My first computer was a Vic-20. Data was stored on a cassette tape (I'm sure that some of you have never even seen one of these in real life, let alone used one). When I started experimenting with technology, I owned a portable record player, "mobile phones" were the size of a large brick and called 'car phones' because they were *literally* attached to a car. I played Pac Man so frequently that I still have a distinct bump on the side of my middle finger from calluses courtesy of the joystick, telephones had dials and, because I lived in a rural area, my family's telephone line was actually shared with two other neighbors. Oh, and the Internet? *Not even invented yet*. What??!! That's cray-zeee!

However, as a modified adage goes: 'You can't always judge an ebook by it's cover page'.

I am primarily an artist/designer but, on the technical side: I manage my own linux servers, I've been developing Flash games for over a decade, I construct ( + map and texture) 3D models, developed databases, and have intermediate knowledge of quite a few programming languages. I lived through and survived the 'Dot-Bomb,' via a children's entertainment website I developed and maintain that currently celebrates over 15 years of moderate success.

Being that my strengths lie more in the arts than the technical, Construct 2 is an absolute Godsend for me. With an excellent manual, wonderful tutorials, and fantastic community, I've been able to get a pretty quick grasp on the nuts and bolts of this extremely intuitive software. I love how, instead of spending endless hours on the programming side of things, I can quickly get the game mechanics laid out and move onto developing the graphics and getting things ready for deployment. Not since Flash have I found an easier tool to work with and, now that Flash is in a hospital bed hooked up to a slow drip, Construct 2 is the exact thing that I needed to allow me to continue my work in a way that will conform to the newer technologies.

I downloaded the free version less than a month ago, read the fantastic manual, experimented voraciously, and recently upgraded to the pro version after officially falling in love with Scirra and Construct 2!

Thank you to the Scirra team for my favorite new tool, and to everyone for your great tutorials, plugins, ideas and other contributions. I look forward to seeing you all around the forums and, to some day perhaps, being innovative enough to be able to give back to the community with my own contributions.

Aloha and have a great day :)

  • Excellent effects! You're obviously an extremely creative person, and generous too. Thank you very much for sharing your examples and insights.

  • Many thanks for the info :) If not for your post, I might still be blankly staring at my screen in complete bafflement ;)
