  • DialgaBrite,

I own all of them, from Unity 3d to GM and everything inbetween. The program is chosen based on what is right for the job.

I can tell you also that the large majority of users (the real game makers here) also use various software and though some favor others (I prefer C2 for html5) that is allowed, it is my preference.

The large majority of C2 users are also GM users, Unity3d Users, etc etc etc

We are Game Makers, and we are found in many places

And we all come with baggage, and preferences, etc. "Each to their own"

That's a good thing to know. I also use GM, MMF, and RPG Maker. I understand having a preference. My problem is when people treat their preference like its actually fact, or say ignorant things like the clickteam user I mentioned above.

    > why are people being bullies? maybe this community IS like clickteam after all. Either way, some of the replies here don't leave a good impression on me. >.<

    >

This community is nothing like clickteam. The underlying issue with this thread and countless other threads like this one, is that uneducated, new users with big dreams try the software (maybe spending 30 hours) and fail to create the blockbuster game. They then come and attack the software.

This is a very helpful community, but don't come guns blazing as tho OP did. Because you will meet with resistance.

Trust me, the guys in this topic are very very helpful. They would have ensured that OP got his game running at 60fps, but he wasn't interested. Some folks even PM'd him trying to help. He just wasn't interested.

What is important to remember. We don't have to help anyone, and we also get tired of abusive people who demand help. We help because we strive to be a open, friendly community.

In this case, the OP wasn't willing to meet anybody halfway, he just wanted to flame.

But does that really make it okay to flame him back? is that what so called "resistance" is?

I am sorry if I didn't read the whole topic or know about the PMs. but the very first reply to him was "ugh. not another one of these". very unhelpful. If construct doesn't run well for him, and it does run okay for others, he therefore had a different experience, there is probably a reason why, such as what type of phone he has. SOME people talked about that but other people just blew him off right off the bat.

[quote:3q7lflao]This community is nothing like clickteam.

As I said, actions speak louder than words. Clickteam said they were a friendly community, but their actions proved they were not. Many communities have claimed that they will be more friendly than the other ones I had a bad experience with, but weren't. So that statement means absolutely NOTHING to me until I can see that actions show it.

why are people being bullies? maybe this community IS like clickteam after all. Either way, some of the replies here don't leave a good impression on me. >.<

  • Construct has some things I like better than MMF and Game Maker but also some things I like less. Here are my suggestions. I will add more if I think of them.

Counter object or "interface bar" - More support for animated counters with numbers, health bars, etc. the ability to import ONE image and have it be displayed mulitple times as lives without having to import say, an image of one heart, then an image of two hearts, then an image of three hearts... rather just import a picture of a heart and it displays it multiple times.

Path movement - different from "path finding", not to get confused. if you have EVER used GM or MMF it should be obvious what this is. basically define a path for the object to move on, that's all there really is to say. the support for this that GM has is better than MMF. it lets you flip a path, rotate it, etc, and has the ability to make the path curved while MMF doesn't.

I also want the ability to set the position of a bgm based on milliseconds and not seconds.

In the end I just want to say it really irritates me that fans of one or the other of these programs act all big shot like their program is superior and they think that's just a fact. Like this one person who, when MMF was compared to Construct, said something like "MMF is for people who actually bother to program things and Construct is for people who want everything just handed to them". that's not true. People fail to recognize that these programs all have their strengths and weaknesses. There are things that are easier to do in MMF, and there are things that are easier in Construct. However the reason I am writing this is because I am hoping the strong points of MMF and GM can be implemented into Construct. However it goes without saying that there are probably plenty more small things I'd want besides just the ones I mentioned here. I'd rather use Construct if I can, since the communities of the other two programs were so arrogant (here's hoping the community here continues to be as nice as at seemed to me at first glance - CLAIMING to be nice means nothing. the other communities claimed to be friendly, but their actions spoke louder than their words).

  • DialgaBrite Why is not as good as you expected? There isn't too much information about what it brings, but I was looking into buying it

It's got all kinds of bugs, the player doesn't get mirrored when moving left and the jumping is really glitchy and crappy. And there's not much to it. If you are hoping for a giant megaman engine, you'll be disappointed. It's VERY incomplete. It's kinda hard for me to judge, but you might even be able to say that the megaman engine originally posted in this topic is better than it.

  • I was able to purchase it today. I can't say it's as good as I had hoped.

  • ....bump?

  • DialgaBrite can only post plain text URLS when they have 300 rep. 1 URLS removed. Why?

DialgaBrite I found this online, it is a template based on Megaman-X. I haven't tried it so no idea if it is good or not:

From the description it looks good, but it costs money. furthermore, I couldn't buy it because it said the person's paypal account couldn't receive money.

If possible I would really appreciate any help in trying to obtain or purchase that, because it looks REALLY good.

P.S. BACLog sorry if this is offending you, that we are talking about a game other than yours. My heart is still with you, and no matter what I decide to use as a base, I still wish you lots of luck working on yours! <3

  • DialgaBrite: If you want to learn, don't hesitate to take a look at the well filled tutorials part of the website that contains more than one tutorial/capx about how to make platform games and platform games mechanic.

Also you may want to take a look at the How do I FAQ which lists topics about specific mechanics and how to make them in C2.

Maybe I will do that if my head is ever in a REALLY good place... like I said, I get overwhelmed easily, and sometimes I have trouble understanding tutorials if they aren't worded very specifically and clearly. thanks though.

  • Once I get through my current projects I may post some more tutorials that cover megaman style movement as well. I have done a great deal of work on wall jumping and wall sliding, air dashing, etc... for one of my current games that may come in handy for others... I just have to find more free time

That would be really nice, good luck!

  • apologize if you were offended. We tend to get a great deal of posts in the forum that end up turning into requests for others to do a great deal of work for someone elses game. Each of your replies mentioned that you might use it if BACLog made more changes to it after it was stated that he is no longer working on it. This gave the impression that you would rather have him do the work than to improve upon his example yourself. As this does not seem to be your intention I apologize. You would be amazed at home many threads we get that degrade into someone simply expecting others to do their work for them, so I may be bit zealous in trying to head these off at the pass so to speak.

I see. I feel a little better now. It's not like I want him to make my whole game for me. It's just that Game Maker and MMF have some open source Megaman engines that are more complete and less buggy than this. And since I want to use Construct and not GM or MMF, I am hoping this will turn into something on the same level as those. The key word is "hoping". If he doesn't have the time or doesn't want to I understand. But he did just say he might work on it again. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

For the record (forgive me if this is seen as advertising, that's not my intent), here's an example of my work and skill level: http://biancagames.com/spiritia.htm

It's made in MMF. I didn't use anyone else's game as a base to make it, actually. Though it does lack quite a bit of platform game elements... there aren't any moving platforms, not many different kind of puzzles or traps.... it's just generic platform hoping mostly and the enemies don't really behave differently from each other. So in addition to using another game as a base, I kinda also want to learn how certain things are done by looking at how its made. Not to mention it will help me learn things I have already done in MMF... how to do them in Construct instead.

  • DialgaBrite You mentioned that you might make a game based on this if it were improved. The point of its creation was to help others to start learning to do their own in C2. You have everything you need to use this as a base and make any improvements you want to it. BACLog has stated he is no longer working on this. This is your opportunity start adding your own functionality to fit your needs instead of waiting for someone else to do the work. Otherwise it just ends up sounding like you don't want to do any work and expect someone else to build your game for you. This is already a great base to build from. BACLog has already laid the groundwork, lets see what great creation you can build from his example! I look forward to seeing your work.

Honestly, I am a little put off by your reply, as well as the other one you left pointing out how old this is. I was silent last time, but now I am going to speak up for myself. The TC has made it clear he may very well continue working on this. And actually, I really would prefer it to be a little more polished before I use it, otherwise I would have too much trouble fixing it. you are talking like you think you know me, like you think fixing it would be easy enough for me. Making games can be really overwhelming for me, and it would therefore be nicer if the base was more polished. But I really shouldn't have to be defending myself from your uneccessary and slightly hurtful comment. You didn't have to butt in there, me and the TC were having a rather friendly discussion and you just changed the vibes and the mood to a negative one. I hope you will apologize.

  • > For the record, in case you're wondering, I MIGHT consider using this as a base for my own game... if it's improved somewhat. I'd be sure to credit you. And I'd probably replace Megaman with a different protagonist, such as someone from Rosenkreuzstilette.

    >

    By all means go ahead.

I made this as a means to help people get an idea of how to do such actions in a game, less than just swapping images and sprites and more of a learning point, hence all the explanation in the event sheet.

my original hope was to remake a level from a classic megaman game in c2 but as i worked on this (probably 8 or 9 hours of work has gone into this engine currently) I realized i would need to replay the classic megaman games more to get a better feel of the game mechanics. I love looking at games i enjoy and playing them again with this new found angle of approach.

in the past i would just play the game for enjoyment now i play the game for enjoyment and as a learning experience.

i pay attention to enemy placement, to the paths available on screen, to all the small visual cues that make the game feel more and more polished.

i have issues finding the right values for megaman's move and jump speed/strength.

also i think i used an event that has on release of jump to set the players y vector at -1 when i should have used "player.platform.vectory-player.platform.vectory" so it just sets the player to fall and removes all upward inertia.

either way lots of little things have changed since i made this.

It sounds like you are a friendly person who is following their dreams quite nicely. Good luck working on this in the future!

  • For the record, in case you're wondering, I MIGHT consider using this as a base for my own game... if it's improved somewhat. I'd be sure to credit you. And I'd probably replace Megaman with a different protagonist, such as someone from Rosenkreuzstilette.

  • i might work on this more today as i have some down time and you brought to my attention the file again and it just hurts seeing all the mistakes i made, also construct 2 has gained so many updates since the files creation.

I would absolutely love that! <3
