  • I would say use bigger smoke images - or, at least, increase the size and shape of the particles so they overlap with each other. I'm not sure of the effect you're after, but hopefully something like this might work and is low on particle overhead?

  • LocalStorage has now been successfully incorporated - OMG that was much more complicated than I thought it should be!! Goodbye to a few hours of my life that I won't be getting back lol.

    Some progress from last week:

  • Anonnymitet - let me check it out and I'll post here when it's fixed - cheers!

  • I am dragging myself into the 21st century and converting my game-save logic over to local storage. Sigh...

  • I was recently approached by Mozilla about bringing Robot 505 to their Firefox desktop app marketplace. Seems the people over at Mozilla really dig Robot 505, which is awesome! It's a neat opportunity to see what kind of traction the game will get when placed on a marketplace with 300+ million users. I'm a tad excited and overwhelmed – for it means I actually have to finish the game

This is awesome - you've been busy!!

  • Update - I've made some minor tweaks to the player movement to make it feel more responsive and less prone to doing weird stuff near to solids; I've also added xbox controller left joystick control, which is waaaay better to use than the d-pad (now I've tried it, I see the big deal).

Edit: just added a pause/confirm screen to the return-to-start selection, just in case it was a mistake!

  • This is very well identified, happens to me as well - W8.1 x64 with r209.

  • WebStorage has been deprecated because, as far as I understand, it is no longer supported by the Chrome Web Store. However, it is still available if you right click on the add object popup and enable deprecated plugins. Keep a copy of the folder as well and, if one day in 5 years it is no longer shipped with c2, you can just paste it back into your plugins folder like any other 3rd party plugin.

Regarding the second point - almost certainly not a problem. There have been no bug reports I've been aware of where odd stuff has been happening because of that glitch.

    So, do it!!

  • ErekT - it must be your turn this week for logging out - for once mine has been fine

...in fact, the whole website just crashed and it's taken me an hour to get access again :/.

What we need is a wiki page for current and useful hacks for nw (and the other export options) rather than having to resort to a forensic search of the forum for such gold...

  • I think you're much better off trying the game in Chrome.... Make sure you have asm.js physics selected in project settings. If both of those cause your game to still jank then the best visual effect will be found by setting the physics to framerate independent.

  • As I understand it, NW requires DirectX 9.0 to permit a faster rendering of webgl - so, without it, the NW render could be very janky indeed. Here's the nw in the manual paragraph that describes this far better than I could (I would only be repeating someone else's knowledge...).

It's worth considering for when you want to export your game and maybe wrap it in an .exe file - you must remember to try to install dxwebsetup.exe before you install your game, just in case the user is one of the few who doesn't have it installed. Bring on everyone running Windows 10....

  • I'm liking the possibilities that this could open up.... Especially if you can achieve more than one light source - good luck!!

  • Sometimes I find it's best not to think about these things too much, then I get caught out by not thinking things through....

  • Aha - I see what you mean now - apologies! I think you're right .
