  • My game is starting to take a long time to preview, even after its graphics are cached - about 30 seconds at this point and there's a lot more code to come! Most of the time I'm only working on one or two event sheets, so construct spends a lot of time recompiling a whole bunch of code that hasn't been touched over and over again. My suggestion is for construct to cache event sheets that haven't been edited the same way it does for graphics.

Would this be possible for construct? If not, could it make it into C2?

  • Actually, a better way to do it is to not use containers. Use one text object, and create an instance for each enemy, and give the text object a private variable where you set the UID of the enemy its supposed to hover above. Then for each enemy, check if the text object's variable equals the enemy's UID and place the text object above it.

This is better than containers because this way you don't have to have a separate text object for each enemy - you only need to have a different instance of one text object.

  • While I think it's a good idea to show how easy it is to make a game in construct, I'm not sure it should be a part of this video. I think this video should be a showreel only, and there should be another video showing how easy it is to make a game.

  • If you're worried about programs deleting files, I recommend sandboxie. http://www.sandboxie.com/

  • AWESOME. I've been wanting this effect for a long time. Thanks!

  • I don't understand your insistence to use an ancient outdated codec when there's a better alternative that's a standard and used everywhere. I understand you don't want to mess around with a lot of esoteric codecs, but as long as it's either MPEG-1 or h.264, why does it matter which a person uses?

Besides, I tried to post an MPEG-1 on the forms a while ago, and there were people who couldn't read that either. :/

  • Did you install the C++ redistributable when installing construct? What operating system are you on?

  • I don't have a problem with one person doing most of the video, but if the person is going to be recording video from an exe anyway I don't understand what's wrong with sending the person video to begin with. Why can't we do it either way?

  • Construct used to get the 360 error message as well on my computer until I updated vista recently. You might want to check for all available updates to Windows.

  • Thanks

  • Well, recording videos would ensure that the person recording videos doesn't miss anything cool.

If we're doing such small clips, I don't think it's a big deal file size wise. We could also submit smaller preview videos for voting. Also, video would make it easier for voting as well, since we'd all be voting on the exact same thing, whereas if we play a game we wouldn't know exactly what was going to be in the video.

  • Yeah, I found out about this one when it was posted on tigsource. I find it both awesome and very easy to use.

I made this in about 30 minutes on my first time using it while I was still learning how to use it.

  • Can we use h.264? It's a standard, and a much better one than mpeg1.

  • You don't even have to do that. Simply close the layout and reopen it again.
