Arima's Forum Posts

  • Perhaps a pop-up window or an email if you have a new message? I liked that about the old forum (though I definitely did not like how the indicator on a page that you had a pm would disappear if you didn't notice it the first time it was displayed).

  • Try Construct 3

  • I heard that was mostly FUD from microsoft, probably to use as an excuse to not support webGL. Read this: http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/2011/06/22/microsoft

    A few choice quotes:

"Microsoft's criticism would sound a little less hollow if they weren't doing the exact same thing with Silverlight that they are criticizing WebGL over. And lo and behold, a Denial of Service vulnerability in Silverlight 5 of the same type that Microsoft was overly concerned about with WebGL recently surfaced."

"Even people at Microsoft do not buy it."

I also recall hearing a bunch of the security issues have already been resolved.

Regardless, do those demos in Lucid's link actually use webGL or are they purely HTML5 canvas?

  • Are there any tools for sound "sculpting/morphing" that they could recommend for people getting started in sound design, hopefully that are easy to use and relatively inexpensive for those of us with small budgets? Or tools that are good for coming up with a unique sounding instrument for a synthesizer?

Basically - where do they recommend someone new to sound design to start?

  • Sounds similar to this:

    Is it the same bug?

  • Thanks Jamesx for keeping it all current!

  • Err... whoops! Sorry about that. I guess all the links need to be updated then, from:

    http://www.scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7468

    to

    http://69.24.73.172/scirra/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7468

  • That was because of the forum switch. The examples can be accessed in the old forum:

    69.24.73.172/scirra/forum/viewtopic.php

Jamesx: perhaps you should add the link above to the thread on the old forum in your first post?

  • As a moderator and a rabid scirra fan, I want to read basically everything on the site. If someone replies to someone else though that still makes it easy for us moderators to miss stuff without repeatedly checking every tutorial, blog post and such on the site.

As such, the new comments idea sounds great if it shows all new comments not just replies to your comments, especially great if it's integrated into the new posts section!

  • Or even better: what if the 'new posts' section was more like a 'new activity' section? So if any new blog posts, tutorials, versions, forum posts or comments were made, they all show up in one place?

Edit: Ergh, ninja'd. Well, it was a thought.

  • A suggestion - what about having comment threads for new construct releases be dually forum threads? I'm on top of those, but I keep forgetting to check comment threads. If all comment threads were duplicated as forum threads, so they could be read, posted to and show up in the new posts section like forum threads, then anytime someone made a new comment it would show up in the same place as all the forum threads and would be much more noticeable without having to repeatedly check the various areas of the site.

I check the forums repeatedly during the day, but navigating all over the site, it seems much too easy for comments to be missed.

  • I second that. I still think events need to be dragged too far too the right to become a sub event, and much too far if you zoom in on the event sheet. Why should we have to drag it further than the amount the event is indented when an event becomes a sub event, which is consistent and not so far to drag? It worked great in CC. I much prefer the distance to drag to the right to always be the same.

  • Yeah, that's how I pronounce it too.

We actually had a thread about this a while ago: 69.24.73.172/scirra/forum/viewtopic.php
