  • Hi everyone, I just wanted to show you the new design of the game.

The old design was cool, but it didn't allow me to create multiple "worlds", so, my friend and me (who made this awesome new tileset) decided to replace it by this one :

    <center><img src="http://img88.xooimage.com/files/4/4/f/bcd016df18c31e459...97937be4-3a299a2.png" border="0"></center>

New "worlds" will be added in the future (well, it took a lot of time to make this one, but we'll see how many we will be able to make).

A new level with lazers is going to be added in the next version of the game. I will probably upload it on Newgrounds, but first I have to solve a bug, the page scolls when you press the down arrow :/ I figured out it had something to do with the event that is used to detect keyboard inputs. I'll see what I can do.

You can still play the previous version on Newgrounds :

  • Hey, sorry for double posting, but here is a new update !

I uploaded the game on Newgrounds, but haven't submitted it yet, the obvious reason is because it's not finished yet.

Xbox360 controller is now supported (Google Chrome ONLY), just press A on your controller to enable gamepad mode. Press any key on your keyboard to go back to keyboard mode. An icon should appear on the bottom-left corner of the screen when you change the controller type.

Here are the controls for Xbox360 controller :

    • A => Jump
    • Left stick down/X => slide
    • Left stick left/right => move
    • LB => Restart Level
    • RB => Go back to last checkpoint

There are still a few bugs :

    • The page scrolls down when you press the down arrow
    • There are margins on top and on the right of the game area on the page.

If anyone knows how to get rid of these margins, I believe I have to edit the index.html file generated by Construct, but I can't find what to change, since it seems that margins are set to zero.

And the scrolling problem seems to be on Newgrounds' side. I will ask them if they can do something.

You can preview the game here (you don't need to be logged in) :

Oh, and here is a sneak peak at what is coming next :

  • Happy birthday !

  • Thanks for trying :)

You know what ? The only thing I did was trying another converter, and now it works

    I used this one : http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator

  • Upvoted.

  • Hello everyone.

I have been struggling against webfonts for too long.

    I followed this tutorial : http://www.scirra.com/tutorials/237/how-to-use-your-own-web-fonts/page-1

    But it is not working.

    In preview mode :

    • Chrome : the font doesn't show up
    • Firefox : the font shows up

When uploaded to my server :

    • Chrome : the font doesn't show up
    • Firefox : the font doesn't show up

Here is the capx : http://www.mediafire.com/?u3r91xep1acrlvg

And the url where I uploaded the exported project : www.rockmypixels.com/HTML5/FontTest

Am I doing something wrong ?

    Thanks for your help :-)

  • That feature hasn't been announced yet, so I thought I wasn't allowed to talk about it lulz

  • I'm in the credits :3

  • Guess what ?

    <font size="4">-UPDATE-</font>

This is a test build. I added the "new first level" along with the old ones.

The game logs some usefull datas for me, so I just need you to test the fourth level in the level selection menu.

This level contains shortcuts and secret places.

You can also preview the track you selected by pressing the Space key in the jukebox menu.

  • Lolita haha, VVVVVV is one of the references in terms of graphics and gameplay.

    <font size="4">-UPDATE-</font>

A new updated demo version of the game is available.

Unfortunately, I can't release the new "first level" for now, maybe for the next build :-)

Here is a short changelog :

    • The new soundtrack was added.
    • Some of the graphics were changed.
    • The new font is now properly displayed ingame.
    • Minor changes to the second level (the leaderboard for this level was reseted because of these changes).
    • Jukebox menu updated.
    • Minor tweaks in the jukebox system (you shouldn't see any change as a player).

There is still no tutorial for now, because it is still a test version, so here is a list of the controls :

    Ingame

    Left/Right Arrows : Move

    Up Arrow/Space : Jump/Wall-jump

Down Arrow : Slide on the ground

Ctrl : Go back to the last checkpoint (counts as a death, doesn't resets the timer)

R : Restart the level (resets timer and deaths)

    In the menus

Up/Down Arrows : Move the cursor

    Space/Enter : OK

    Escape : Back

Any feedback and bug report will be very useful :-)

(the game is hosted on my blog, so it may take some time to load, don't worry)

    Have fun !

And again, thanks to JohnnySix for his amazing musics \o/

  • Name your animations "Animation1", "Animation2", "Animation3", etc.

    Then use :

    set animation to : "Animation" & str(playerNumber)

  • It is just additional way to make people talk about the game. I think it is easier to give a facebook link to someone than a forum thread, well, at least it's easier for them to get all of the informations about the game.

As I said before, I will keep posting updates on this forum, and I will put a link to them in the facebook page :-)

  • Try Construct 3

  • Thank you Johnny :-D

I found a way to use this font without having to install the spritefont plugin (there's a tutorial explaining how to do it on the blog).

I created a simple facebook page after someone told me during a developer meetup in Paris today that it's a good way to advertise the game.

I will still post a few updates here on the forum, don't worry :p

  • Anyhow, I have submitted a game (was developed over 10 years, with nearly monthy releases with additions and fixes) before the fee came up and took it down again, because I was really annoyed by all the flaming on the graphics (yes, the game does not look great but there are much worse games on Steam).

If you don't work on a 1:1 clone of Battlefield, don't waste your time on Greenlight.

Yes, I had the exact same feeling when I read the comments on some good looking games.

    "Oh, another retro platrofmer."

    "hnnnnggggg, pixel-art :/"

Then I checked these guys' game list, and they were the ones who bought Swords and Sworcery, Home, Lone Survivor, and other games like that...

They are juste flaming because they think it's "cool". It usually doesn't bother me that much, but damn', it's greenlight, something that could have helped small developpers like me, and it's full of flamers :/

I had great expectations for Steam Greenlight, because I am developping a game with almost no money, I could at least have tried to submit a game, to get feedbacks, and then I see this 100$ fee and these flamers...

  • Yes, I just saw that submission fee thing.

I think this is completely retarded from Valve... It starts to look like Microsoft that asks for money to develop a game for their Xbox. Come on, you're better than that Valve...

I was thinking about puttin 8BR on greenlight, just to see people's reactions, but this 100$ fee + downvote button + commentaries I read on some games almost made me change my mind (I can already imagine people saying "8BR = Bit Trip Runner", which is completely false, both games have completely different gameplays).

The only thing I can do, is hoping they will find another way to "filter" the games that are submitted on greenlight, or at least lower the submission fee, because for now, as a student, I really can't afford to lose 100$...
