  • You now need to pay 100$ to submit your game to Greenlight.

Because of the people who added BF3, Minecraft etc...

  • Yes, I just saw that submission fee thing.

I think this is completely retarded from Valve... It starts to look like Microsoft that asks for money to develop a game for their Xbox. Come on, you're better than that Valve...

I was thinking about puttin 8BR on greenlight, just to see people's reactions, but this 100$ fee + downvote button + commentaries I read on some games almost made me change my mind (I can already imagine people saying "8BR = Bit Trip Runner", which is completely false, both games have completely different gameplays).

The only thing I can do, is hoping they will find another way to "filter" the games that are submitted on greenlight, or at least lower the submission fee, because for now, as a student, I really can't afford to lose 100$...

  • The Down Button is not bad, it has no affect on the votes you need and the game disappears from the voters list. I think Valve is already doing it better than Apple at least, if you like to publish on the ITunes store, you need to pay 99$ every year. For steam, it is a one-time fee.

Anyhow, I have submitted a game (was developed over 10 years, with nearly monthy releases with additions and fixes) before the fee came up and took it down again, because I was really annoyed by all the flaming on the graphics (yes, the game does not look great but there are much worse games on Steam).

If you don't work on a 1:1 clone of Battlefield, don't waste your time on Greenlight.

Yes, I had the exact same feeling when I read the comments on some good looking games.

    "Oh, another retro platrofmer."

    "hnnnnggggg, pixel-art :/"

Then I checked these guys' game list, and they were the ones who bought Swords and Sworcery, Home, Lone Survivor, and other games like that...

They are juste flaming because they think it's "cool". It usually doesn't bother me that much, but damn', it's greenlight, something that could have helped small developpers like me, and it's full of flamers :/

I had great expectations for Steam Greenlight, because I am developping a game with almost no money, I could at least have tried to submit a game, to get feedbacks, and then I see this 100$ fee and these flamers...

  • I agree that $100 is pretty steep to pay for the possiblity to maybe get your game on Steam. It's good at least that it's a one time fee, but $50 would have been more reasonable.

At least the money is going to charity.

I don't think the downvote is necessary. If it doesn't impact the votes, why call it downvote at all? IMO they should just change it to "Ignore".

More like "Hii, i am steam, if you want to publish your projects on Greenlight, you must pay $ 100 one-time, because there are trolls can't afford $ 100 to submit their fake projects, your $ 100 goes to Child's Play. (Hehehe i take $ 99, and $ 1 goes to Child's Play)"

  • If you can prove that, take them to court.

"All proceeds from this fee (minus taxes) will be donated directly to Child's Play"

  • I was receiving flamers downvoting Super Ubi Land because it's based around the mario platforming style (Which IS the point of the game!).

I personally don't mind constructive criticism but a lot of these guys just get on here to bash people's games. I'm fine and completely understand if it's nothing you'd be interested in but why do they have to be so vocal about things that don't interest them all of the time? It gets to a point to where it just becomes downright rude

  • TowerClimb's there.
