Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • I was looking at the unreal engine website (http://udk.com/features) and I'm wondering:

what's the difference between UDK and Construct?

Can Scirra also be called a "development kit"?

  • Lol Construct can never compete with UDK.UDK is a 3d games creation prog and Construct can only do 2d stuff. But Construct is the ultimate 2d games creator so far.Although Construct is still in it's beta form it can definitly compete with mmf and games maker.

I did not mean to question if they can compete.

So, (U)DK stands for development kit.

I think Construct can also be called a development kit, or not?

Question 1: when is something called an engine, when is it a development kit?

Question 2: can games be created in UDK without any programming or scripting knowledge? (reason for asking this question is only general curiosity. For both questions, actually )

UDK isnt a "games creation prog" its an engine

i'd say its safe to call construct a development kit

[quote:25qlg9xs]"Making its debut in 1998, the first generation Unreal Engine integrated rendering, collision detection, AI, visibility, networking and file system management into one complete engine.

basically what makes an engine or a DK what it is, is the fact that it integrates pretty much everything you need to make a running game, in this respect construct does exactly that. and it has integrated support for its own event language and python, but even though it uses events i think that still classifies it as an engine nonetheless.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

Your'e absolutely right im such an idiot!!.But UDK and Construct are the best ive tried so far.I have 3Drad as well which is very easy to use for creating 3d games.I haven't used 3drad much but you can go and have a look for yourself http://www.3drad.com

3DRAD is also freeware and ive played some pretty awesome demo's created with 3drad.

  • Could be said that UDK/3DRAD are the 3D equivalent of Construct/Game Maker?

hmm not really, they dont make it easy like construct does, you need to know real programming, but they have calls and stuff to make it easier using library and those languages. For instance, you dont need to make your own model loader and rotation sytems, collision detection etc. because stuff like that is already in there.

you can call construct an engine/sortaish devkit, but cant really call UDK/3DRAD game creation programs.

  • I wish there was a 3D equivelent that's as easy to use as Construct. Can Construct be called Middleware?.I think so cause everything is already there to create games in construct.

    Unity

or if that's too difficulte, Kodu..

    Can Construct be called Middleware?.

    No

I think so cause everything is already there to create games in construct.

Except Art, completed events, music, sound, gameplay.

    Unity

Unity 3d is nowhere Near as easy as Construct is. you still require knowledge in programing language such as C# and Javascript in order to Accomplish anything decent.

I don't think that there is such a thing.

I must agree with you on that one Sonicworms. No program comes near Construct's ease of use.
