Green or blue?

Green island themed set of tiles for your platformer game.
  • Most forum software allow the option for users to select from a pre-determined set of themes. Wouldn't this be a more suitable option for all ? It would allow Ashley to stick with the green while the rest of us go smurf <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Seriously, though, I would think a choice of 3 or 4 themes would be more preferable, with the default one - the one the public and non-registered see - using the more corporate looking blue.

  • Anyone else notice the "early adopters" tab in the blue screenshot? :)

  • i say green.

it's not really a fair comparison with those images, because the blue all matches, and the green has blue scirra lettering, and also the minty background is very blueish, while the blue theme is completely cohesive, here's a comparison on more even footing:(maybe the background should be grey, on the green, too?)

    imho

I do think blue looks more professional. but I don't think it needs to look more professional. scirra is not going to appeal to larger corporations until down the line. scirra needs to be cool, fun, and powerful. not cold, corporate, and calculated

  • I like lucid's all-green theme better than the all-blue one. Right now the site is mainly green, but with bits of blue.

That's my main worry about the blue one - it's good, but it does look very corporate and serious. The blue one seems very "technical documentation for Microsoft Office", whereas green is more fun and lively.

I'm still being outvoted though :)

maybe we can get the alternate green on the OP?

  • Like I said, it is not so much the blue that I prefer, I just don't want that glaring green. Really, it gives me headaches after a few minutes of watching. Whatever color, just use it more cautious, not so bright and shiny, etc.

    I can't believe that anyone would need glaring green to say "Hey, we're indie" <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Well, as the question is asked, yes.

I mean, Tom is working on the theme for scirra's website. This means, this is your image, what you want to reflect to the user. When we (members of the community) arrive on your site the theme makes us feel this and that way, because of the colors you choose, the arrangement, etc...

As mentionned earlier in the discussion, you could provide different themes/variations of colors, and let the user pick the CSS he likes best. Maybe even customize his own css for his own account (is that possible ?).

If you have but just one theme, you won't be able to obtain a 100% approval by the community, because of all the tastes and the number of users. In this combination there will be at least one person that won't like the color, the way things are arranged, etc...

    That's life.

So either propose different versions, or just propose one, which is the one version you picked, because, in your tastes and opinion, it represents the image you want to give out from Scirra.

On a personnal note, I like the blue version, but I like also the green current one. The "greener" Lucid's theme is even more harmonious, hence better, so it might be a good alternative too.

In the end the multiple choices option would be cool, and could allow me to switch the theme of the site when I grow tired of the current theme (a bit like I'm changing my desktop's wallpaper every 6 months or so ^^).

  • I voted the blue one just to have something else than the actual glaring green background, but I would reconsider green with Lucid's version (or close to this, with a more neutral background) ^^

But in the end, the corporate identity should be Scirra's choice, unless you want to propose different templates for the forum... asking everyone may not be the best to define who you are... if you ask me, I'd go for red ^^

  • Voted for green. [This] blue is too boring for me

  • Yay recolors!

Now if it were up to me, I'd probably do THIS.

    <img src="http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/6934/blackpd.png" border="0" />

But not really, lol. This is just a thought.

  • MelodiousRefractions

That is scary <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> Too goth for my taste.

  • Inverts colors! Fix'd! But not really.
