A Good free software for drawn Sprites?

Hello!

Until now, I only made my games out of pixelated sprites. For this, I directly used the editor in Construct 2.

But finally want to try a game with a different art style (Some sort of Vector style or in the direction of "Cup Head").

I tried Krita but don't feel very comfortable using it for Game Art. Are are good alternatives you know?

I already have Spriter installed, but I was searching for a software to DRAW the sprites on, not to animate them. I guess I'll try it in Kirta then, or is there a Sprite-editor in "Spriter"?

Hm, but it seems like all of these are more or less for pixel-art games.

What I want to achieve is some sort of vector art look. (e.g. Awesomenauts http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam ... 1498860621)

I tried Inkscape but it feels a bit too complicated, especially for drawing.

With Gimp I am already quite familiar, but I guess it is also better for pixel-stuff?

You can achieve a Cuphead or Awesomenauts look with any of them. I have made some "vector feel" characters in the past using them:

A vector look doesn't mean you actually have to use a vector tool like Inkscape.

I actually got quite into Krita already and think I will stick with it.

I changed from Gimp to Krita as soon as I try it and it's a nice tool <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile"> Those are some nice characters you got there, they look good for a more "realistic" game (not a toon look) <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool"> Just remember to keep the amount of details at the lowest level possible or you will be having a hard time animating them <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz"> good luck <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink">

I know, these are not directly for a game, more like concepts or cover arts from characters.

Ingame they would be wayyy less detailed, I know ^^

The problem with these softwares is that they don't have templates. I'd like templates like in 3d character creator programs.

if you have photoshop,

you can setup the settings for pixel art!

if you don't have a photoshop license there is gimp and also inkscape which are free or you can try finding software online like https://www.piskelapp.com/ which are designed for pixel art drawing and design (the last one might charge you for exporting to png jpg other than that i think is free.)
