  • Stupid question, so, did you draw these sprites and animations 100% by hand, yourself? If so, goddamn, people becoming animators overnight. If they're just extensive edits to an existing character, I am sorry to say that I'm much less enthralled (oh well, just one guy anyway) but the project seems to be coming together nicely and wish you luck on it.

  • I don't mean to, uh, de-thrall you but yeah, they're edits.

    At any rate, this .cap is currently under my command. Sol is making graphics and stuff. I'll be passing it back to him after making some changes/additions.

    I've made a few minor tweaks so far:

    • Smoother scrolling system. The viewport no longer "pops" into place when you do a hand-plant.
    • New "Look" controls. Pressing down at any time will move the viewport down slightly to see what's below.
    • New firepit animation rather than physics balls.

    Next up: Tweaking the wall jump.

    Also, what do people think about pressing down+jump while running to do a running roll? Right now you can only roll from a crouch. Or should the control just be "press down while running?"

    Anyway, I'll upload the new version when I get a little more work done on it. I actually haven't heard from Sol in a while, I hope he's doing okay.

  • I think hitting down while running should go into a roll. that way its more free running but I recall sol not wanting it to be too much of a free run.

    And yes I am OK! We had a public holiday and stuff, so I had like a mega extended weekend thing going on there... out of the last 7 days I have only worked like 3 days lol... Now back to the grind stone! I tend to post mainly from work when I'm bored (such as right now for example).

    And yes deadeye... a running roll move would be super cool.

    And yes, the sprites are an edit (at this stage). I am seriously considering replacing her with a completely custom sprite though... but it can wait until much later at this stage... once the game engine hits v1.0 and we start doing level designs, I may hit up my animation studio and start making a completely custom character. I have a superb idea with which I will PM deadeye about later.... and the rest of you can just wonder what the fock it is

    Yeah that was the idea from the start... not quite sure where you got the impression that it wasn't supposed to be a free runner.

  • OK so I just checked out the engine revision that Deadeye sent me, and it's making progress nicely. I will take the next couple of days to try and redesign the main character with some sketches, so I can then start working on redoing the entire character from scratch.

    Since this project is becoming a little more serious than I originally intended, a fully original character would be the way to go in terms of really making a game. Certain animation sequences will be very similar in order to keep the mechanics the same, but none the less it will be all freehand and fresh. I will submit a character sketch once it's done and Deadeye is happy with it to give you guys some insight into what her new look will be.

    Hang tight... the demo won't be far away at this rate, but the final version may be further away than originally anticipated.

    That comment of yours rang the bell in my head signaling you didnt want it to be too much of a free runner. Anyway glad you got me back on track Im excited to see your new original character !

    Yeah I can see how you thought I meant otherwise with my comment. What I meant was more the pace of the game may not exactly be aimed at going "fast fast fast". There will be a little more timing and thought that will go into it, while at the same time the idea is to try and go as fast you can.

    Thanks a lot for that Drasa... I know deadeye already PM'd you so I'll wait to hear back from him in regards to the things he spoke to you about. That music will definitely be used, at this stage probably for the title screen, only because it doesn't loop or anything... but it's freakin' wicked. I was talking to a friend of mine onyla few days ago about the kind of music I wanted, and we started looking up the old "Shadow of the Beast" on youtube... and that was the kind of music I was looking for... and GUESS WHAT? OMG U STOLED MAI IDEEZ AN RAEP MAI BRAENZ WIFJOR FINGORZ OF ALL JOOR MENTL ARE BELONG TO US!!!1
