So I'm putting together a plattformer with a friend as another part our a Rapid Prototyping course.
This time I have a problem with transitions. Our game consists of 49 screens, divided into seven rows of seven, and the player starts in the one right in the middle. When he leaves a screen the floor collapses or otherwise becomes a deadly deadly area that you can't return to without dying. Therefore it is important that the player will be able to transition not just either left or right, but also up or down.
I don't know how I'm supposed to handle the transitions propperly though. At the moment I have 49 different layouts, but I have been unsuccessful in making these actually work. Any ideas guys?

EDIT: With a lot of help from Inkbot and the magic of MagiCam my problem is solved. :D
