  • I am currently learning how to properly place down map assets for a top down 2d rpg i will be making for a project, I finally understood how to manipulate z-layers to create depth when creating a thicket of forestry, however.

I noticed when creating a small mountain range with a water fall is that whenever i slightly scroll across my screen, the placement of my tiles such as the waterfall start to move along with me as if its pseudo 3D.

Is this because of how i am using z layers or is there another reason why this is happening. I don't know how else to explain or to fix it.

giphy.com/gifs/P044HIeihctUymIDKr GIF to try to show what i am trying to ask about. specifically look at the 2 small plants on the right side, or the waterfall.

  • There is a Z elevation property that is pretty much literally pseudo 3d. You don't want that.

There is z order, which determines which objects are drawn on top of each other.

If you're using layers, one of your layers may also have parallax settings applied, which would change the rate at which things on that layer scrolls relative to other layers.

  • Fixed! Thanks, i totally mistook Z elevation for Z order. which was the cause.
