How to make advanced level selection menu

How to make an advanced level selection, with automatic button placement, with a customizable number of rows and columns in the grid, pagination, page turning buttons, asterisks, etc.

Please share examples or help create this.

I tried to build on this example, but it's missing a lot of things, so I thought someone might share a more detailed tutorial or example.
