  • Hi, I am getting major jankiness on my phone with the most simple game built with Construct 3 Beta 130. It janks and sputters and stutters on my fully upgraded Galaxy note phone. I built it with Construct 130 and wondering if anyone else sees this major jankiness on their devices?

I have included both the project here for you to look at and the Construct 130 debug APK for anyone to test on their own phones/Devices.

Link to Construct 3 Simple Project:

Link to Debug Android APK to test on different devices:

Please let me know how much jank you are seeing on a scale from 0-10. 10 being constant jankiness, 0 being no jankiness. Thanks!

  • Alright, so I am getting less jankiness now for some reason, still I would like to see other people's results if you have a sec to test it. Thanks you guys.:)

  • When I first start the app, there is noticeable Jankiness and a black bar that protrudes across the bottom of the screen. When I switch tasks and then go back to the already open app, the black bar is gone and there is less jank. Seems weird, what's going on?

  • Theis entire Construct 3 project only has 7 events in it.

  • You could have 0 event and still make it shutter. Building for phones, you have to least read all construct 2/3 manual and tutorial + follow thous best practices. Construct does have weakness - its super simple to make mistakes.

And yes that project could easily have jankiness and shutter, if you don't remake it.

  • You didn't look at it did you.

The project does not have mistakes.

I've read the manual multiple times.

The project is structured well, construct 3 is not.

  • Didn't get any lag on my 4-5 years old phone samsung J5. It's begging me to throw this sh*t out and buy a new one. The system is really laggy, which means It runs smooth on almost any device.

edit: I included a text box showing fps, cpu and image texture ( "FPS: "&fps&newline&"CPU: "&round(cpuutilisation*100)&"%"&newline&"Img memory Usage: "&ImageMemoryUsage )

I also played it using remoted preview.

  • I began porting my C2 project to C3 today with r131 and am noticing some random stutters/jank, yes.

  • I am still experiencing serious jank and stutter with stable release 131 and that hideous black bar at the bottom of the screen which does NOT go away after closing and reopening the app....

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Hi

I have tried your test app.

On my laptop i7, the jank is hideous.

On my moto g6 android 8 with remote preview, it has jank, but is a lot better.

On my moto g6 android 8 with apk, the jank is much, much better, hardly noticable.

C3 on chrome has janking issues with scrolling on some devices, even with tiny projects like yours.

I have asked about this issue before, and apparently the blame lies squarely with chrome.

With Microsoft now moving its Edge browser to a chrome based one, I hope there is some improvement in the future, as we will now be more reliant on chrome more than ever, I suppose time will tell.

    Cheers.

  • Sizcoz, show me the jank (: Can you record video with that i7, also with worker mode.

I just enabled worker mode in c3, it did not make any difference on my laptop.

I have had trouble before with my laptop with jank, but only with scrolling games, so I don't bother with them anymore.

I haven't used the game recorder yet, until there are some examples of how to use it, I don't want to spend time trying to work it out, unless you could point me to an example tutorial?

    Cheers.

  • I didnt try the apk

but preview is always janky and not representative of real world hosted or nwjs

    eg (i hosted your project)

    yamaforce.com/Test002

is as smooth as butter for me and that is on Intel 520 integrated graphics

(edit) tested (hosted) on crappiest phone in the house (my work phone) moto g4, and still smooth as butter. zero jank

yep moto g6 is good with apk, It's only my i7 nvidia 745m that has problems, also if i switch to integrated, it still yanks, and that's with your hosted project.

If I minimise the laptop screen, It improves, but still janks, I'm not really bothered as I target Mobiles, and these seem to have better results, I would be interested to see how it performs on chromebooks, If anybody has one to try on.

  • I just tested it on a pretty new (2 year old) chromebook, the results were better, but I wouldn't call it buttery smooth. It still looked stuttery over preview; the hosted one performed the best but it displayed a little bit of stutter as well, but it was less severe than on my Galaxy note phone. Still, I'm hoping for that buttery smooth performance that gamers instantly notice and appreciate......
