How do I use acceleration and deceleration properly

Hi,

How would I create a ball object like a gas pedal.

Whenever I press and hold down right arrow the ball would start accelerate until I let go the arrow then the ball would decelerate slowly come to a stop.

This ball will be rolling on a board which I assume I need to set both objects to solid?

Is this setup going to be using physics at all? If so you can play around with the Apply force/Apply impulse conditions on the ball when keys are pressed.
