Spriter/C2 - (9-16-2019 - bug fix)

Rotate & Animation for 16 Direction & Mouse Direction
  • Awesome, nice to know you're gonna address that issue. And... Holy cow, those animations are amazing.

Also, lucid, there's another suggestion I'd like to make, mainly for Spriter in general - a 'prototype' animation art pack. Nothing complicated, just an animation set with a detail-less manikin or crash test dummy, for 'prototype' animations for game testing, basically. Just something usable, it doesn't even really have to be good looking as long as people can use it :p

  • This is more like a request, and not a bug report. lucid do you think you can give us an example of Spriter usage for animating a front view character walking towards. Are there tools that can help with that?

OR a top view character.. for a 8-directional movement.

    Thanks

For some reason I believe that the Spriter plugin is messing with my project. For example if you look in the editor you can see at the end of the pathway, an orb. When you preview the orb it seems to be not there but still triggering events. If you move the orb in front of the hooded figure, the orb disappears with it. However if you disable one of the Spriter initialization actions it seems to appear again.

Can someone help me decipher this?

  • Candescence They are releasing art packs like that with the product when it comes out. They have shown examples in the past of them.

  • I used spriter animation in one of my prototypes and then when made into apk... kaboom .. didnt work :(

When can we expect this to work for mobile platform?

I would love to buy it when that gets fixed.

We have to wait for spriter ver b6 released first. After that lucid mentioned that he will update the plugin to support cocoonjs and etc.

  • I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but I have a couple of questions:

    • Can we do motion blending? So say with an analog input I could blend between walk and run animations?
    • Can we control bones dynamically? So say my character is walking along, I can hijack the head animation to look at an object.

    Thanks!

  • thehen

I believe no in both cases.

I heard sweet tweening between animations will be there. eventually. Maybe B7?

I'm not sure when we will be able to customize certain object positions. though I'm looking forward to seeing that one too.

  • Hello everyone. Still finishing up version B6, but I got around to updating the plugin to test the new .scon format with cocoonjs:

That's cool. Super looking forward to the plugin update and Character Maps in C2(NEEEEED).

But why is that only CJS get's the JSON version of the SCML format? Why not just make it standard for Browser. It seems that JSON is far more supported across browser wrappers than XML. Seems like holding onto an XML format and only using JSON for CJS is holding back C2 & Spriter for mobile devices.

While it's awesome that we can finally get Spriter objects on CJS which I'm using. It just seems reasoable to use JSON more.

But anyways. For now awesome awesome joy joy :)

    This is awesome

Any ETA about the v6 :)

  • Hey lucid

I'm sure you're aware of this, but this is rather concerning...Esoteric Software's product 'spine' seems to be a shameless clone of Spriter. I've been seeing well-known developers tweeting about it! What's the deal there? I'm worried people will start seeing your software as the clone...

  • sqiddster

I think I read somewhere that those guys were unhappy with Spriter direction or roadmap, so they develop their own tools.

We are now waiting for ver B6 which should bring alot of new features.

Would really like to hear from lucid though about the ETA..

As far I know, Spriter is made as animation program that is accessable for indie developers that wanna do game animations and don't have hundrets of dollars to buy softwares like Toon boom Harmony... and not to be most original.

can it really be considered as a clone for having features that already exist in other softwares? Despite the pricing, ppl seem to praise Spine over Spriter but then again, I guess they got more ppl to work on it. I still like Spriter better because it has plugin for C2 which has potentional for many objects in the game but I admit that id preffer more easy work with the timeline editing for advanced animations.

  • I've been using Spriter for my Team Notion project and I like it. Spriter feels really basic compared to Anime Studio or Toon Boom but I see the potential in it. Hopefully a lot more features get introduced and hopefully we can get more menus telling the user what all we can do. For a while I couldn't figure out how to link bones to sprites and things like that.
